D.1. General Information about Program

Guitar Master Degree Programme established by efforts of Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Ahmet Kanneci and leadership of Prof. Binnur Ekber, head of Piano Department, in  2010-2011 academic year. The programme hasn?t any graduates yet. The programme carried out by modern methods and techniques. It follows the current works of the international area and goes on to contribute to academic knowledge through its artistic and scientific works.

The purpose of the Guitar Graduate Program at the Institute of Fine Arts at Hacettepe University is to educate performing and educating artists at international level, by enabling students to improve all the necessary theoretical knowledge and technical and musical skills acquired during the graduate education in Guitar field.

Graduates of Bachelor of Music in the related art branch of State Conservatories and candidates who hold an equivalent diploma may apply for the Guitar Graduate Program  and are subject to an admission exam. In this exam, candidates are responsible for the program in line with the curriculum prepared by the relevant art branch. The language of education is Turkish. The length of the education for Graduates is maximum 3 years.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

For international students, the requirements defined by Hacettepe University towards admission of students from abroad are applicable (http://www.iso.hacettepe.edu.tr/) During admission to this program, the conditions defined in the relevant articles of the Directive for Graduate Education-Training and Examination at Hacettepe University are applicable (http://www.sosyalbilimler.hacettepe.edu.tr/belgeler/resmigazete06112006.pdf) 

The program quota is determined by the head of department for that period.

Candidates who meet all application conditions and apply in accordance with the rules determined by the University are taken to the Entrance Exam.

The Entrance Exam is evaluated out of 100 (one hundred) full points.

In the Entrance Exam, works from the following categories are performed:

1 (one) work selected from the Renaissance Period,

1 (one) Suite or Sonata with at least 2 movements selected from the Baroque Period,

1 (one) work selected from the Classical or Romantic Period ,

1 (one) contemporary work

1 (one) etude (selected from the composers, Fernando Sor, Heitor Villa-Lobos ya da Stephen Dodgson)

1 (one) Turkish composer's work

The Entrance Exam is recorded audio and video and the recordings are kept for two years.

Candidates are held responsible for gathering of a piano accompanist.

The overall success grade of the candidates is the sum of 40% of the undergraduate grade point average and 60% of the score received from the Entrance Exam and is evaluated out of 100 (one hundred) full points.

Candidates who get at least 50 (fifty) points from the Entrance Exam and whose overall success score is at least 60 (sixty) are considered successful. In case the overall success score is equal, the Entrance Exam score is taken into account.

To graduate from Department of Guitar Master Degree Programme students have to achieve 24 national credit sum and 120 ECTS credit totaly.

Profile of the programme is to train guitarists who;

· can take part in music institutions,

· have an advanced level of art culture and aesthetic appreciation,

· have knowledge about the relationship between theory and practice,

· can develop and deepen the theoretical knowledge, method and musical skills,

· can perform the pieces belonging to all periods of guitar repertoire to a community at international level,

· internalize the art ethics,

· can follow developments in the field,

· predictive, respectful, participant, open to innovations and developments.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of guitar master degree program can work as an academic or instructor in state or private art institutions, art schools and conservatories. Also they are able to find work as a soloist or accompanist.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Department of Guitar Master Degree Programme consists of 4 semesters. The programme has 120 ECTS totaly and 30 ECTS each semester. Compulsory courses have 9 national credits and elective courses have 15. Master degree thesis begins at the end of the second semester. Thesis studie takes two semesters.
