D.1. General Information about Program

Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology was founded at 25.02.1972 with the name of “Analytical Toxicology”, the name later was changed to “Analytical Toxicology and Bromatology” and “Pharmaceutical Toxicology”, respectively. Since 1972, it offers master's and doctoral education. The lectures are given in Turkish.

High Pressure Liquid Chromatography, RT-PCR, spectrofluorimeter, spectrophotometer, ELISA reader, ICP-MS, electrophoresis devices are present and a cell culture laboratory is located in the department. With these facilities, in different areas of toxicology such as cytotoxicity, cell damage, oxidative stress, antioxidant defense systems, DNA damage, reproductive toxicity, immunotoxicity, nanotoxicity, endocrine disruptors, metal toxicity, mycotoxins, pteridine pathway arebeing studied in the laboratory of the department.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

It is required to be a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy and to approve the bachelor's or master's degree from other faculties by the Academic Board of the Department.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The program consists of a total of 21 local credits (120 ECTS credits) with the prerequisite of elective courses and 120 ECTS credits including thesis work and special topics courses. Totally the program consists of 240 ECTS credits, 1 ECTS is equivalent to 30 hours of workload.

If the student has transfer credits from the other courses, he again must take at least half of the total credits required by the program. If the supervisor thinks that it is appropriate and necessary, doctoral lessons can also be selected.

Upon completing the thesis, it should be prepared according to the Institute of Health Sciences Thesis Preparation Guide and the student will defend the thesis to the jury. Foreign students can prepare and present their thesis in English with the permission of the Board of the Institute of Health Sciences

Students? academic achievement status and results of the evaluation of the thesis defense exam are evaluated according to Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulation.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

A student who is currently enrolled in a Master?s Degree program in related discipline at another institution and has successfully completed at least one semester, upon submitting all required documents before the deadline, he/she may transfer to the Master?s Degree Program to Hacettepe University. For the acceptance of applications, there must be master student quotas in relevant department, and the student must provide all admission requirements must be enrolled in the post-graduate program courses at least one semester and must receive a65 (C1) note at least..

Admissions of the undergraduate transfer students by the board of the department are be finalized by the board of directors.(Hacettepe University Master Education and Examination Regulations;

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The program aims to provide scientific experts with basic knowledge on toxicology investigating the harmful results of the interactions between the biological systems and chemicals including drugs, physical and biological factors, and defining the mechanism of action and the relation of harmful effects with the dose, duration and exposure route along with the prevention and treatment of poisoning.

The graduates have the ‘Specialist on Toxicology' degree and can work at the drug industry, especially on pharmacovigilance, licensing and R&D compartments; Turkish Pharmacovigilance Center and the other departments under the Ministry of Health, Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency; Drug and Poison Information Centers, Forensic Toxicology Laboratories, reference laboratories and risk assessment departments in Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and also in Pharmaceutical Toxicology Departments in the Faculties of Pharmacy.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

All courses are provided in both autumn and spring semesters. Requisite courses constitute 50% of the program (including thesis preparation courses), while elective courses constitute the remaining 50% Students are recommended to take the Biostatistics course from Hacettepe University, Institute of Health Sciences or other Institutes.For elective courses, student are free to take courses from Pharmaceutical Toxicology Doctorate Program or other doctorate programs. All requisite and elective courses are listed in Course Structure Diagram. If necessary, doctorate students can take these courses in a different semester providing the requirements of total credit.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are defined by the information packages for each course in the program. In order to be successful in a graduate course, the student must receive at least C1 (65). H.U. As described in the part of ?Qualification Requirements and Regulations?, the program consists of a total of 21 local credits (60 ECTS credits) with the prerequisite of requisite and elective courses and 60 ECTS credits including thesis work and special topics courses. In total, the program consists of 120 ECTS credits. In order to get a Masters degree, the student must take The Research in MS Thesis course and must be successful in his/her thesis defense.
