D.1. General Information about Program

Along with other Nursing departments in our institution, Fundamentals of Nursing Department has been established according to the 27th November 1990 Executive decision of Turkish Higher Council. In 2 October 1998, it offered graduate programs, including master and PhD in Nursing, under the Health Sciences Institute of Hacettepe University.

Application to Fundamentals of Nursing Doctoral Program requires Master's degree in Nursing, Fundamentals of Nursing, Nursing Administration and meeting the application requirements of Hacettepe University Health Sciences Institute for graduate programs.

Doctorate Program: In order to graduate from the program, the student must take compulsory and elective courses to complete the 120 ECTS credit load and complete a PhD thesis with 120 ECTS credits. Program Aims: The aim of doctoral program in Fundamentals of Nursing is to enable students advance as experts in the field of fundamentals of nursing and its basic theories, concepts, principles and methods, and to synthesize new knowledge by conducting original research independently.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

We conducted a face to face interview with six graduates of Fundamentals of Nursing PhD program to explore their views on the quality of education they received. Four of our graduates had been enrolled in our program within the context of Teaching Staff Training Program and two completed this program while they were working as research assistants of nursing department at another university in Ankara. Three of our graduates promoted as assistant professors by their universities after graduation, whereas two are still working as research assistants at their departments, and one of the graduates returned to her university immediately after the graduation.

All of our graduates reported that this PhD program empowered them by developing their ability to inquiry the basic topics of Fundamentals of nursing; its concepts, theories, principles and methods, and their critical perspective towards the issues of nursing practice and systematical approaches to nursing care based upon the direction of nursing historical development process. They admit that continue their academic work by using the ability of conducting an independent and specific research. A separate and compulsory nursing ethics course for Fundamentals of Nursing doctoral program has been suggested by most of the graduates.

Fundamentals of Nursing doctoral program includes four year (eight semester) education by the faculty of Fundamentals of NUrsing Department. Graduates who complete this program will be awarded with PhD in Fundamentals of Nursing Program.
