D.1. General Information about Program

Department of Psychology established in 1964 and a four-year mainstream graduate (doctoral) education. Apart from the courses given by the General Psychology Doctoral Program and the other courses, the language of instruction is Turkish.

The main aim of the General Psychology Doctoral Program is to raise qualified graduated students from doctoral program for our country. For this reason, the students attend practicum courses of their education in order to transform their theoretical knowledge on teaching profession into skills and to develop their knowledge. Our doctoral program titled as “General Psychology”. However, students can able to target four area of specialization (Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology and Industrial and Organizational Psychology) at psychology by related courses.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Applicants have an undergraduate degree in related field to study.

2. Master degree GPA must be at least 3.20 over 4.00 (four).

2. Applicants are required to score at least 75 standard points from equal weight categories of the Academic Staff and Graduate Education Examination (Akademik Personel ve Lisansüstü Eğitimine Giriş Sınavı, ALES) organized by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi, ÖSYM). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score, determined by the Hacettepe University Senate, in the internationally recognized GRE and GMAT examinations.

3. Applicants are required to score at least 75 in the Foreign Knowledge in Foreign Language Placement Examination (Yabancı Dil Seviye Tespit Sınavı, YDS). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score from other foreign language examinations, held at the national or international level, whose equivalence is approved by ÖSYM.

4. International students' applications are accepted in line within “Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

5. Those conditions, which are not included, are applied in accordance with the related provisions of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education, Instruction and Examination Regulations (Hacettepe Üniversitesi Lisansüst Eğitim, Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği).

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who are accepted to register in the General Psychology Doctoral Program complete their graduate (master's) education or get an equivalent education. Those who have completed a graduate degree at psychology or related disciplines or an equivalent foreign training and possess the requirements determined by the University Senate may apply as a candidate of General Psychology Doctorate Program. During admission, sub-field of psychology in which the applicant wants to do doctorate degree is determined (cognitive psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology). If the candidate has master degree from different field which accepted by academic council or from master's degree other than psychology sub-field Scientific Preparatory Program is proposed as a prerequisite before starting the graduate courses.

The General Psychology Doctoral program is a program which raises graduated from General Psychology Doctoral Program who are sensible to humanity, society and moral values; respectful to themselves and around; qualified in their profession; in pursuit of life-long learning; supportive of scientific way of thinking; effective users of their mother tongue, skilled in fulfilling requirements of modern psychology methods; open to different thoughts and cultures, able to think creatively and critically.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of General Psychology Doctoral Program can work as psychologist at schools, kindergardens, hospitals, nursing homes, lock-up houses, and house of corrections, as instructors, research assistants at universities; as officials at public and private institutions and organizations and also work as officials in departments of human resources.

General Psychology Doctoral Program consists of 8 terms. General Psychology Doctoral Program consists of 43 courses and 30 ECTS each term totally. In the program must courses 50% and elective courses 50% are provided comprising of the curriculum. Students are free to choose year courses in fall or spring semester.
