D.1. General Information about Program

Doctorate programme in Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation within the context of the Institute of Health Sciences started in 1967-68 academic year. In accordance to the development in the field of prosthetics and orthotics in the academic year 1996-1997 a masters and doctorate program in Prosthetics -Orthotics and Biomechanics was established under the Division Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. Graduates who have completed this program, can carry out an original research at the various specialized areas in Prosthetics -Orthotics and Biomechanics independently, can interpret and comment on scientific events with a broader and deeper perspective and can determine the necessary steps to achieve new methods and applications. They are expected to carry high-level skills acquired in training and research to their national and international clinical and academic works. Graduates of Prosthetics -Orthotics and Biomechanics program acquire a Doctor of Science Degree.

 To have an undergraduate degree diploma in area of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation

To have a graduate degree diploma in area of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation or Prosthetics -Orthotics and Biomechanics program

to receive equivalent education abroad for Prosthetics -Orthotics and Biomechanics doctorate education.

To  fulfill requirements set out in Article 33 and Article 34 in H.U. Post-Graduate Education-Teaching and Examinations Regulation for PhD qualification program.

To be successful in the qualifying examination and thesis proposal which should be approved by the Academic Council of the Department.

To educate a doctor of science with the universal qualities of a scientist in training, research and implementation issues in the field of Prosthetics -Orthotics and Biomechanics, who can do top-level application in special fields of Prosthetics -Orthotics and Biomechanics according to the various health needs of the community, who can independently plan and carry out original research, who can offer the newly acquired information for the benefit of science and humanity, who can contribute to national policies in their topic, who is knowledgeable, educated and competent enough in the national and international scale.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Doctorate program of Prosthetics-Orthotics and Biomechanics consists of totally 240 ECTS including compulsory and elective courses. The students can take courses from different programs that appropriates for Physiotherapy rehabilitation program in addition to their program.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

Doctorate program includes 3 years at least which consist of minimum 4 semesters course term, minimum 2 semestres thesis study. Student must complete 30 ECTS in each term.
