D.1. General Information about Program

Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences Master's program was launched in 2002. The aim of programme is to provide advanced knowledge to students in the fields of biomaterials and drug precursor molecule synthesis. The primary criterion separating the programme from the similar programs is that it enables students to follow latest scientific and technological developments in the area of health sciences by using advanced chemistry knowledge. The students doing graduate studies in this programme have an opportunity to work in a well equipped research laboratories. Teaching language of the Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences Programme is Turkish.

Total of 120 ECTS credits for successful completion of all the courses (minimum grade C1) and overall grade point average of at least 65 (at least 2.50 out of 4.00) are required to graduate from Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences Programme.  The student must be successful in thesis defence.

Graduate students without thesis who fulfill the Graduation Requirements of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations are awarded a master's degree without thesis.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students that will transfer to another institution of higher education, must meet the conditions of Hacettepe University Health Sciences master's degree, must have taken at least one semester course in his/her registered programme and quotas should be opened in the programme that she/he will trasferred to. To prepare the individuals who produce, develop and use advanced science and technologies in the areas of biomaterials and organic synthesis; capable of advanced synthesis and analysis abilities, and gain advanced science and research ethics with contemporary education and research principles.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

In the Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences Programme, the ratio of compulsory and elective courses is 65% and 35% respectively. There is no elective course taken from Faculty/Institute but, if necessary, some elective courses from the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences can be taken. The compulsory and elective courses of the programme started in 2002. Compulsory and elective courses in this programme shall be completed within the first two semesters. In the first semester, the compulsory courses are taken and all the compulsory and elective courses are completed at the end of the first year. The first year is the theoretical period and the second year is the experimental period in which the thesis works are performed.

In this program, a total of 120 ECTS credits for successful completion of all the courses to be taken and the overall grade point average of at least 65 (at least 2.50 out of 4.00), the successful students, with the remaining period of time determined by supervisor prepare a thesis. Students must be successful in thesis defence. Hacettepe University, Institute of the Health Sciences? graduation conditions applies.

Graduate students without thesis who fulfill the Graduation Requirements of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations are awarded a master's degree without thesis.
