D.1. General Information about Program

The history of Wind and Percussion Instrument branches (Flute-Oboe-Clarinet-Bassoon-French Horn-Trumpet-Trombone-Tuba-Percussion Ins.) under the Music Department, dates back to the establishment of Music Teacher's College in 1936 (Musiki Muallim Mektebi). After inclusion into the “Council of Higher Education” in 1982, Ankara State Conservatory was connected to Hacettepe University and these branches gathered together under the name of “Wind and Percussion Instruments Department” and was restructured again. “Master's Degree in Art” and “Efficiency in Art Programs” started to give education in 1996-1997 Academic year.

This program has been acquired by Hacettepe University Fine Arts Institute on Fall 2012 semester.

Wind and Percussion Instruments Department, with its “Bachelor's Degree”, “Master's Degree in Art” and “Efficiency in Art” Programs, educate students to become artists and educators for national and international orchestras and educational institutions, with all sub-disciplines of wind and percussion instruments, by using modern methods and techniques.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The master graduates from Hacettepe University State Conservatory, Wind and Percussion Instruments Department, Flute-Oboe-Clarinet-Bassoon-French Horn-Trumpet-Trombone-Percussion Instruments Sections or the candidates acquired the diploma of masters degree equal to this can apply and be accepted after an exam and audition.

Examinations:

1. Written examination: A composition explaining opinions about their field of study will be requested from the candidates. The composition's topic can be anything about the field of study.
2. Performance and interview: The candidates must perform a program in the same level of H.U. Ankara State Conservatory Wind and Percussion Instruments Department's Master's Degree graduation examination level. The program (concerto, sonata and studies) according to the Department that will accept applicants, will be announced by the Wind and Percussion Instruments Department before the date of application. The students will be evaluated during the interview by being questioned about their intentions in their field of study and the way they express their aims by speech.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To graduate from Wind and Percussion Instruments Department Efficiency in Art Degree, students must achieve minimum 24 national credits and 240 ECTS credits.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Hacettepe University's “Graduate Degree Examination Regulations” conditions specified in the relevant articles are valid for recognition of prior learning.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The aim of Wind and Percussion Instruments Doctorate in Art Degree is to educate artists and educators for national and international orchestras and educational institutions with musical and technical skills, equipped with information, ability and attitudes to become a successful educationist by making an academic career, internalized art ethics, closely monitoring and contributing to the developments in his/her field, predictive, respectful, participant and a high level of aesthetic appreciation open to innovations and developments.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The fields of study for Doctorate in Art Degree graduates of Wind and Percussion Instruments are summarized as follows;

Working as a performer with appropriate professional qualifications in national and international symphony orchestras, opera orchestras and chamber music groups or making an academic career working as a researcher and faculty member of conservatories and music schools.

To graduate from this program, Hacettepe University's, Graduate Degree Examination Regulations 43rd article shall apply as well as obtaining 24 national credits and 240 ECTS credits .
