D.1. General Information about Program

Graphic Department was established on 03.28.1983 and 1983/84 academic year has started education by the entry in the force the law No: 41 dated 20.07.1982. The purpose of the department is to educate designer and artist candidate as researcher, creative, cultured and to improve the aesthetic values of the community through art and graphic design within the field of their study during the academic year.

Students become experienced in the field of visualization and design with innovative approaches and conceptualized methods. The department educates multidisciplinary work oriented designers in order to the ever-changing demands of the practice areas of graphic design and to meet the expectations of their career.

In our department there are interactive design, motion graphics and new media lectures and studios

D.4. Provisions for Registration

Candidate should be the graduate of a Master of Fine Arts degree program approved by the board and should pass the Entrance Exam; as well as it may require to take courses in Master of Fine Arts program in preparation for the courses with the recommendation of a consultant and  decision of the board and when it is necessary.

In order to apply for the Program; In addition to the conditions required by the current legislation,

- Having a master's degree, primarily in the fields of Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design, Communication Design, Graphic Design Education, Multimedia Design,

- It is required to have received at least 55 points from YDS, e-YDS and YÖKDİL, or to have received an equivalent score from one of the other national or international language exams accepted by ÖSYM.

If deemed necessary, with the recommendation of the examination jury and the decision of the major art branch, courses from the master's program are taken for artistic preparation.

Entrance Exam: The Entrance Exam is carried out on the documents uploaded by the candidates to the system.

Applying in accordance with the rules set by the University and meeting all application requirements.

Candidates who do so are taken to the Entrance Examination.

Entrance Exam, graphic area exam evaluated out of 35 (thirty-five) points, 35 (thirty-five) points pattern exam, which is evaluated on the basis of 30 (thirty) points.

It consists of three parts, including the exam, and is out of 100 (one hundred) full points. is evaluated.

Graphic field exam and pattern exam papers are kept for two years.In the oral exam, candidates are asked questions from the following topics:

- Evaluation of the graphic field exam and the candidate's introduction file

The general success grade of the candidates is 40% of the graduate grade point average taken from the Entrance Exam.

It is the sum of 60% of the score and is evaluated over 100 (one hundred) full points.

Candidates who score at least 60 (sixty) points in the Entrance Exam and have a general success grade of at least 70 (seventy) are considered successful. In case of equality of general success grade, the Entrance Exam score is taken into account.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To get a Masters Degree in Graphic Design 120 ECTS (24 national credits) must be successfully completed, to the degree of Proficiency 240 ECTS (24 national credits) must be successfully completed. 60 of 120 credits needed to be obtained on Masters Degree in course, the other 60 will be received in the thesis. 90 of 240 credits required for the degree of Proficiency will be received by courses, 30 on preparation to Doctoral Qualifying Exam course, last 120 credits will be received in the thesis. These conditions are determined within the framework of Hacettepe University, Higher Education and Examination Regulations.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Conditions and rules of credit transfer of eligible students enrolment in the program they are registered including transfer of credit of graduate and post-graduate courses from domestic / international higher education institutions in the last five years, published in the Official Newspaper No. 28 476 on Friday November 23, 2012 on HACETTEPE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE STUDIES AND EXAMINATION REGULATIONS.

Train qualified graphic designers who are researcher within their field of study, problem-solving, creative, designs graphics that revealed information, routing styles and cultural values ??of the society, thereby improving the level of potential appreciation.

Train talented graphic designers ; who transfers graphic findings in the area of ??application, aware of the level of social environment both materially and spiritually, successful in converting graphical language according to the information requirements and have qualifications to equip a new synthesis of contemporary interpretations of the cultural values ??of the society in which he lived for.

Department of Graphic Design Master's Degree graduates may be employed primarily in the academic field; can work and pursue a career as an academician in the field of private, foundation, or government in Graphic and Visual Communication Departments of Faculties of Fine Arts.

They can work as a graphic designer, art director, advertising photographer, professional illustrator and web designer in Private companies and advertising agencies; and create motion graphics, generic designs and animations in television and broadcast industry .

They can work as a concept designer, character designer and illustrator in game industry. They can make interface designs for applications in the field of touch-sensitive media devices.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

In this program, Graphic Workshop and Seminar courses are compulsory, all other courses are offered as elective courses. Apart from the courses they take from the main art program, students can take courses that will contribute to their fields from other majors or departments. All of the courses in the program are semester-long. There are no prerequisite courses. Apart from the courses that are placed separately in the Fall and Spring semesters, there are also courses that can be opened in both semesters with the same code. Although the program is practice-oriented, there are also theoretical courses; some courses are carried out practically and theoretically. Apart from the compulsory courses each semester, there are various elective courses.

The measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined in the "Course Teaching Plan" prepared by the relevant faculty member/s and included in the Information package. Regarding exams and course grades, the relevant articles of HACETTEPE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE EDUCATION, TEACHING AND EXAM REGULATIONS are applied.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

At least 21 national credits and not less than 240 ECTS credits; Students who have passed the compulsory courses and other courses they have chosen and whose thesis has been found successful by the Defense Exam jury are entitled to graduate from the Program with the decision of the Graduate School Administrative Board. In order to graduate from the Proficiency in Art Program, 240 ECTS courses and the exhibition, project, design, application, demonstration, etc. they can realize. They are required to submit a written report to be prepared within the scope of this activity with a design activity and pass the thesis defense exam.
