D.1. General Information about Program

The graduate program in the Bioengineering Division started in 1988 under the Institute of Natural Sciences.Bioengineering is an interdisciplinary department that applies an engineering approach to biology, medical systems, biotechnology and other related technologies. 

Our Department, affiliated with the Institute of Science and Technology, which has the distinction of being the "first Department of Bioengineering" in our country, offers postgraduate Science Specialization and Doctorate education programs. The education period is 4 years and there is no internship requirement for the courses. The language of instruction is Turkish, and our academic staff currently consists of 26 professors, 5 associate professors and 2 doctor faculty members from 14 different departments.

The graduate program  consists of courses, thesis proposal, thesis work and dissertation defense exam in accordance with the Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations (http://www.fenbilimleri.hacettepe.edu.tr/file/yonetmelik/hulisansustuogrvesinavyonetmelik.pdf).

According to the European Credit Transfer System for graduation from the program, 120 credits of course work and 120 credits of thesis courses must be taken for a total of 240 ECTS. For graduation from the program, 36 national credits should be taken in addition to the special topics courses.

Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine Department Doctorate Program has been continuing education in Hacettepe University, Institute of Graduate Studies in Science since 2007-2008 Fall Term.  Today, nanotechnology and nanomedicine are among the hottest scientific areas. Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine Department is an interdisciplinary graduate program  supported from 5 different faculties  including Faculty of Science Faculty of Engineering , Faculty of Medicine,  Faculty of  Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy   at Hacettepe University. Students can take their courses according to their research interest and prepare their thesis in the supervision of a faculty member who has expertise in the field.

The purpose of the program; To train bioengineers who have basic scientific knowledge, can follow universal developments, are researchers, producers, entrepreneurs, have strong interdisciplinary communication, can easily solve problems and have ethical values, and bring them to industry and academic life. To closely monitor current developments, to contribute to the country's economy and development by providing solutions to the problems of our country's industry by developing new techniques and processes through research and development studies.

Alumni are equipped with the skills in multidisciplinary areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, electronics and medicine and may actively work as product and production management, research and development, process design and optimization, factory organization and management, quality assurance, safety and environmental quality, technical sales, service and marketing, management, occupational safety, quality, expertise and business security consulting services. The graduates work  as well at the universities as academicians.

As explained in the qualification requirements and regulations section. All of the courses are elective. Other elective courses from outer Divisions should not be exceeding 25% of the total number of courses of the program. The elective courses are taken upon the thesis superviser's advice compatible with the thesis topic.Thesis subject can be envisioned on the basis to bring a solution to a problem encountered in industry as well as relying on the new technological advances, trends and innovative approaches. Thesis work can be experimental and computer-aided study.

Exams and  grades/success evaluations  of courses are applied according to the HU Postgraduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations.
