D.1. General Information about Program

General Biology Program established as ‘'General Biology Department'' in 1976 and after that it took place like one of the programs in Biology Department in 1981.

The first head of General Biology Program was Prof. Dr Ahmet Noyan. The following heads of the program were Prof.Dr. Nazif Kolonkaya, Dr. Ali Nihat Bozcuk, Prof. Dr. Emir Cansunar and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Onur. Currently head of the department is Prof. Dr. Hacer Ünlü.

There are four basic science branches in this program: Animal and Cell Physiology, Genetics,

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

With the inclusion of graduate courses, which were taken as a special student of a student, graduate courses, which were taken before the enrollment in the institute in the last five years, from domestic/international higher education institutions can be transferred to program, the student is enrolled, according the advisor opinion, recommendation of the board of the department and decision of board of institute. However, more than 2/3 of the total credit a student enrollment of program is not considered to transfer of credits of graduates courses as special student. D.7. Goals and Objectives

The aim of PhD program in General Biology is to educate the doctors of phylosophy that will be capable of interpreting actual and advanced data in the scientific field by original thought and/or its research and to be capable of proposing solutions related to specific scientific issues.

Graduates of PhD program can work in related disciplines in universities, hospitals, research institutes and related public institutions and organizations.

PhD program contains 8 semester. Students need at least 240 ECTS and a PhD thesis in order to graduate from the program.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

A student, who successfully completed to compulsory courses of the program and has academic average at least 2.75, presents thesis/art work at the end of the second semester. After the succesful thesis defence, the student graduates from program.
