D.1. General Information about Program

From its first establishment Hacettepe University, hosting Turkey's largest and well-equipped medical and dental faculties, has been a pioneer not only with the qualified personnel, who were trained in here, and with good medical practice, but also with its public health activities. Dental Public Health is a special and privileged area that requires the integration of competencies of dentistry with public health philosophy and methods.

 Dental Public Health Doctorate Programme is carried out within the Hacettepe University Graduate School of Health Sciences and through the relevant regulation.  The aim of the doctorate program is to train the dental public health doctors, who have gained the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out and evaluate oral dental health programs, equipped with educational skills to pass on his/her knowledge and skills to train scientists; his/her literature knowledge and application skills of at least one research subject has reached the universal level, can plan and perform scientific research to shed light on current community problems in the field of oral dental health, and present the data that he/she has obtained for the benefit of science and humanity, produce new information; carry the ethical and social qualities of the universal scientist.

 Doctorate program contains courses, proficiency exam, thesis proposal, and thesis study and thesis defense. The duration of education is 4 years. Students must take at least 21 national credits/240 ECTS credits to graduate. The must and elective courses stated in the programme will be given by the faculty members of the Department of Oral Health Sciences, which has a multidiscipliner structure. The elective courses can also be taken from the pool of elective courses in HU SBE. The language of the program is Turkish. The language of the thesis study is the program language; however, it can be done in a different language with the decision of the Administrative Board of the Institute.

 Graduates can work in departments related to oral dental health in universities, central and provincial organizations of the Ministry of Health and affiliated organizations, private organizations and civil society organizations. They can conduct projects in the field of health in public or private sectors.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to graduate the Dental Public Health Doctorate Programme, the student, who was accepted to the program with the master's degree, must complete total at least 240 ECTS; at least 21 credits and 90 ECTS's with at least seven courses, seminar, phd proposal and thesis work courses, except from “Preparation To Doctoral Proficiency Exam” course, during the Phd study.

Student who successfully completes courses and whose academic average is at least 3.00 can take the proficiency exam. Student, who is successful in the proficiency exam and whose thesis proposal is accepted, prepares the thesis under the supervision of the thesis monitoring committee. Student must write his/her results according to the Institute's thesis writing regulations, and present the thesis orally to the jury. D.7. Goals and Objectives

This program aims to train scientists equipped with knowledge and skills in philosophy and practices of dental public health and to provide the graduates with the ability to conduct independent research in order to improve the oral health and quality of life of the society, to interpret the events related to oral dental health with a broad and deep perspective and to determine the necessary steps to achieve new syntheses.

Graduates of this program can work in universities, in the central and provincial organizations of the Ministry of Health and its affiliates, in private organizations and in non-governmental organizations in departments related to public oral health; conduct projects in the field of health in public or private sectors. In addition, they can continue their studies in various universities or research units abroad.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

This doctorate program consists of 8 semesters. Program consists of at least 240 ECTS; at least 30 course ECTS credits in the each of the first 4 semesters and total 120 ECTS credits in the last 4 thesis semesters.

Students have to complete the must courses in the first two years (four semesters). The required credit is provided by elective courses. Students may also take courses from other programs not included in the Community Oral Health Programs in order to contribute to their areas of interest and thesis studies. A student who has completed at least 120 ECTS credits, can also take extra elective courses in accordance with the approval of his/her advisor.

The measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined in the “Course Teaching Plan”, which is prepared by the relevant faculty member and included in the course information package. In order to graduate, a student, who successfully completes all the requirements of the PhD program, must fulfill the relevant articles of the H.U. Graduate Education and Examination Regulations (Government newspaper numbered 29900 and dated November 26th, 2016)

Doctorate program consists of courses, proficiency exam, thesis proposal, thesis study and thesis. The relevant rules determined by Hacettepe University Graduate Education Regulation are applied for each stage of the program.
