D.1. General Information about Program

The main purpose of the Department of German Language and Literature is to develop teaching programs to provide trained manpower at the graduate level in the fields of German Literature and German Linguistics and applied linguistics and foreign language teaching based on this.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Graduated from any undergraduate program, undergraduate academic success average (GPA) of at least 2.50 out of 4 or equivalent,

2. To have at least 60 standard points in one of the numerical, verbal or equal weight score types of the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) conducted by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), or to have a score equivalent to 60 points from the internationally recognized GRE and GMAT exams within the framework of equivalence determined by the H.Ü. Senate,

3. To have at least 75 points from the Foreign Language Proficiency Level Examination (YDS) or to have 75 equivalent points from one of the nationally or internationally recognized German exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM.

4. International student applications are accepted in accordance with Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations published in the Official Gazette dated November 26, 2016 and numbered 29900.

Candidates who meet the above application requirements are admitted to the program entrance exam. Candidates who get the minimum score determined by the department in the written and/or interview exam evaluation are considered successful. The ranking of successful candidates is made by the exam jury according to the overall success grade.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a Master's specialization degree in German Literature.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who transfer from one of the institutes affiliated to another university to an institute of the University from programs that are similar in quality and whose equivalence is approved by the relevant board may be exempted from the courses they have taken and succeeded in equivalent programs with the evaluation of the relevant board. Students who apply to the program from outside the field are accepted to the scientific preparation program for a maximum of two semesters in order to eliminate the deficiencies related to the program with the decision of the institute board of directors upon the recommendation of the interview evaluation jury and the positive opinion of the head of the relevant graduate school.

To provide the student with the ability to conduct independent research, to interpret scientific events by examining them from a broad, deep and rational point of view and to determine the necessary steps to reach new syntheses. Graduates will also gain the skills to discuss their scientific research in written and oral form in national and international environments and publications.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Back

Graduates can work in various official institutions and private organizations, especially in the Ministries of Tourism, Culture and Foreign Affairs; they can work in banking, media, foreign trade and tourism sectors. Our graduates, who have job opportunities in German or other fields related to Germany, can work as German instructors in our universities, and those who have a teaching certificate can work as teachers in public and private schools.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

1. The Master's program in German Literature consists of two phases: a course and a thesis. In addition to the non-credit course ADE 690 Seminar in German Language and Literature (2 0 0), students are required to take at least 12 credits in each semester, for a total of 24 credits.

2. Courses are selected in each semester from among the courses offered for the relevant program and courses offered for other programs. In compulsory cases, fall semester courses may be offered in the spring semester and spring semester courses may be offered in the fall semester. Candidates who successfully complete at least 24 credits of courses present the scientific results they have obtained by conducting research under the supervision of their advisor in the thesis phase as a thesis study. If the Master's Thesis is accepted by the jury established with the approval of the Board of Directors of the Graduate School and the candidate succeeds in the subsequent oral examination, he/she is awarded the degree of "Master of Science" in the field of German Language and Literature (by specifying "German Literature" or "German Linguistics") by the Board of Directors of the Institute of Social Sciences.
