The foundations of the department of Speech and Language Therapy at Hacettepe University have been laid with the onset of the graduate program of Audiology in 1968. After 1989, the graduate program in Audiology had been revised and has continued as ?Audiology and Speech Disorders? both for doctorate and master's degree programs. Department of Speech and Language Therapy has been officially opened up on 17th April 2013 subpart of the Audiology Department. Later, on 22nd December 2014 Department of Speech and Language Therapy has been disjointed from Audiology Department and hereby became an independent department under the roof of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Alums of Speech Language Therapy programs gain the ability to conduct objective and subjective tests, diagnose definitive diagnosis, and evaluate and design therapy programs for all age groups of patients (infants, adolescents, adults, and elders) with the help of acquired theoretical background and clinical observations. Besides, alums of the department can handle several issues such as voice disorders, Specific Language Impairment (SLI), articulation and speech voice disorders, dyslexia, dysgraphia, children who need special rehabilitation and who have hearing impairments, neurological speech and language disorders (e.g. aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia) and dysphagia and so many other cases in terms of multi/inter/transdisciplinary framework. Â Thus, alums of the graduate programs of Speech Language Therapy may have the ability to use both objective and subjective evaluation methods via instrumental and perceptual approaches. They can do the necessary planning and management.
After graduation, alums do have a ?Master of Science? degree. In this general context, masters who are equipped with abilities such as evaluation of speech and language disorders and application of therapy techniques, planning, and conducting scientific research are being educated in this department. Alums of Speech-Language Therapy graduate programs can utilize the competencies they gain during therapy applications, clinical observations, and academic research thus in the next step have the ability to professional application and research.

To register for the Department of Speech and Language Therapy graduate program, candidates should primarily graduate from Speech and Language Therapy undergraduate program.

In order to successfully graduate from Speech and Language Therapy graduate program, all students have to complete 120 ECTS successfully. Or equivalent education abroad is required.
Bachelor's degree in Speech and Language Therapy or an equivalent degree from an international program is valid.Â
The main objective of the graduate program of Speech and Language Therapy is to educate expert speech and language therapists in accordance with the intended goals of the health and rehabilitation field. In this respect, this is a notable step for meeting the needs of the community and the other crucial aim is to provide education standards and increase the quality of the current education system.
The primitive mission of the graduate program of Speech and Language Therapy is to approach the problems of speech and language adequately by supplying high-standard knowledge, clinical service, and research opportunities to the students and community, and training expert speech and language therapists with the highest skills in both health services and scientific research by implementing principles of speech and language science to students and improving problem-solving skills in their profession.
As an academic department, Speech and Language Therapy adopt the principle of raising awareness and being informed of the public people. Besides Speech and Language department which utilizes information and contributes to science has national and international leadership qualifications in evidence-based education with the aim of an enterprising and interdisciplinary approach to cooperation.
Alums of Speech and Language Therapy may have the chance to work as speech-language pathologists in state/private hospitals, companies, special clinics, education centers, etc. Also, after graduation from higher studies, they have the chance to work in academic positions in state or college universities.Â

The program is composed of required and elective courses. Part or all of the elective courses may be chosen optionally within or out of the department.Â
With respect to the measurement and evaluation procedures, Course Information Packages which are prepared by academic/s are defined for the assessment system. To graduate from Speech-Language Therapy, at least 60 ECTS course and 60 ECTS thesis, and a total of 120 ECTS course loads must be completed.Â
