D.1. General Information about Program

Back

The Master of Science program has been reorganized, the content of courses has been altered and courses have been introduced with new codes as part of the Bologna accreditation process. Novel applications which meet the program requirements will provide a different perspective to our students. These applications have been carried out with inputs from partners and students as well as with considering the basic field requirements. Hacettepe University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is the first occupational training institution at university level in Turkey. Department of Nutrition and Dietetics started to serve as a program called ?Dietetics? under Health Sciences School firstly in 1962, in order to give education and do research in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics. There are four major fields of study in Hacettepe University Faculty of Health Sciences, Division of Nutrition and Dietetics which are; Nutritional Sciences (1994), Dietetics (1994), Institutional Food Service Systems (1994) and Community Nutrition (2001). A Master of Science program of the ?Community Nutrition? Department was opened in 2013, and the relevant courses were given in the departments of the Department of Nutrition Sciences before the program opened. Department of Nutrition and Dietetics joined to ?Faculty of Health Sciences? in 2007 with the decision published in the Official Gazette No. 26551. The postgraduate programs in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics are given "Nutrition Sciences", "Dietetics", "Food Service System" and "Community Nutrition" as 4 separate programs within the "Institute of Health Sciences", which was created with the Decree Law No. 41 on July 20, 1982, after the Higher Education Law No. 2547 came into force. The language of the program is Turkish. As in many professions all over the world, branching has gained importance in dietetics. There is a separate science specialist program that trains ?Community Health Nutritionists? in many universities around the world. Dietitians who received their Master of Science degree can work in three main fields as described by ICDA (International Confederation of Dietetic Associations) and EFAD (European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians), which are Manager Dietitian, Clinical Dietitian and Community Health/Public Health Dietitian. There are ?Principles of Nutrition", "Food Chemistry", "Microbiology", "Anthropometry", "Organic Material", "Orhan Köksal Research" and "Computer" Laboratories and "Nutrition Education Unit" in the Nutrition and Dietetics Department.
