D.1. General Information about Program

The Piano department which is founded in 1924 with Atatürk?s directives, was one of the first ever department of the Music Teachers School. Among the distinguish founder faculties were Ulvi Cemal Erkin,  Ferhunde Erkin, Fuat Turkay, Mithat Fenmen. Since then many renowned Turkish Pianist was been raised in this department. In 1982 the conservatory has been merged with Hacettepe University/ Under Piano department there are Piano, Harp, Guitar divisions and they offer primary, high school education besides undergraduate, graduate, proficiency of art degrees. It serves academic and applied field in every aspects of music with its high level graduates.

The purpose of the Piano Proficiency in Art Program at the Institute of Fine Arts at Hacettepe University is to educate performing and educating artists at international level, by enabling students to improve all the necessary theoretical knowledge and technical and musical skills acquired during the Masters education in Piano field.

Graduates of Master of Music in the related art branch of State Conservatories and candidates who hold an equivalent diploma may apply for the Piano Proficiency in Art Program and are subject to an admission exam. In this exam, candidates are responsible for the program in line with the curriculum prepared by the relevant art branch. The length of the education for Proficiency in Arts is 4 to 6 years. The language of this Program's education is Turkish.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

To apply for the program; In addition to the conditions required by the applicable legislation,

 Having a master's degree,

 The requirements are to have received at least 55 points from YDS, e-YDS or YOKDİL, or to have received an equivalent score from one of the other national or international language exams whose validity is accepted by OSYM.

The program quota is determined by the Department of Art as deemed appropriate for that period.

2. Entrance Exam

Candidates who meet all application conditions and apply in accordance with the rules determined by the University are taken to the Entrance Exam.

The Entrance Exam Jury may not listen to the entire exam program if deemed necessary.

In the Entrance Exam, works from the following categories are performed by memory:

 Piano:

 1 (one) etude 

 1 (one) work selected from the Baroque Period

 1 (one) work selected from the Classical Period

 1 (one) work selected from the Romantic Period

 1 (one) contemporary work

 All movements of sonata, suite or similar forms must be prepared.

 Harp:

 1 (one) etude 

 1 (one) work selected from the Baroque Period

 1 (one) work selected from the Classical Period

 1 (one) work selected from the Romantic Period

 1 (one) contemporary work

All parts of works in sonata, suite or similar forms must be prepared. 

The Entrance Exam is recorded audio and video and the recordings are kept for two years.

The overall success grade of the candidates is the sum of 40% of the master's grade point average and 60% of the score received from the Entrance Exam and is evaluated out of 100 (one hundred) full points.

Candidates who get at least 60 (sixty) points from the Entrance Exam and whose overall success score is at least 70 (seventy) are considered successful. In case the overall success score is equal, the Entrance Exam score is taken into account.

In order to graduate from the Piano and Harp Proficiency Program in Art, a minimum of 24 national credits, excluding common mandatory courses and a total of 240 ECTS credits are required.

Piano Department and Harp Division at the Institute of Fine Arts at Hacettepe University offer a Proficiency program in arts, aiming at improving and expanding knowledge and educations at higher level, introducing instructors at academic level, orchestra artists and soloists to serve in this field into modern Turkish music life.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of Proficiency in Art Degree can work at national and international music faculties, conservatory and/or equivalent institutions as trainer (instructor), and at private institutions as well as state opera and ballets and symphony orchestras as pianist / Harpist. Graduates of this program can teach students of all ages piano and also continue their work as soloist. In addition, they can perform concerts and recitals individually or in a group, conduct audio and/or audio-visual media recordings.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The four-year Proficiency in Art program consists of eight semesters. The first, second, third and fourth semesters are for courses; the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth semesters are for thesis. At the end of thesis period, a student is responsible for playing one recital program and works from two different periods in solo with orchestra in accordance with the directions determined by the Department of Piano, Ankara State Conservatory at Hacettepe University.

Courses are opened on a semester basis and without any prerequisites. A student conducts field studies at advanced level in the first, second, third and fourth semesters of the program. They continue their studies towards thesis and graduating exam under the title of special topics in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth semesters.

Of the total 240 ECTS credits under the program, 180 credits are for required courses and 60 credits are for elective courses. A student has to take elective courses of at least 8 national credits in order to complete a minimum of 24 national credits required for graduation.

Total national credits of elective courses opened under the program is 18, total of the ECTS

Credits are 60.
