D.1. General Information about Program

Master of Public Health (M.Sc.) Program is managed by the Institute of Health Sciences. The Department of Public Health (Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine) is in charge of the program. Postgraduate students graduate with the knowledge and skills on public health approaches and practices, to take roles to improve health status and quality of life of community and to contribute to the development of the science of public health in Turkey.

Eligible candidates can apply to the program according to the quota opened. Foreign nationals can also apply to the M.Sc. program. After graduating from the M.Sc. program, candidates are able to apply to the PhD program.

The graduate program is two years (four semesters). Required and elective courses are taken in the first two semesters of the program. The second year (third and fourth semesters) of the program consists of the thesis study. Students may take elective courses during the thesis period on the advice of consultant. The language of instruction is Turkish.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

 Graduates of medicine and graduates of undergraduate programs in science and social science faculties, which are related to public health, are accepted to this program.

The student candidates need to fulfill the requirements specified in the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Postgraduate Studies and Examinations.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

 Students have to complete a minimum of 120 ECTS / national 21 credits and the thesis with success to get an MSc degree in Public Health.

The student, who has successfully completed the courses of the program and has a minimum student academic average of 2.75, can offer thesis proposal at the end of the second semester.

After completion of the thesis work, the candidate defends his/her thesis before a jury, and complete the MSc Program if he/she is successful in knowledge, interpretation, and synthesis parts of the thesis defence. In the thesis period (two semesters), the student earns 60 ECTS.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

 Students are allowed for lateral transfer, and credit transfer between programs according to the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Post-Graduate Studies and Examinations.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

 The aim of the program is to provide students with the essential knowledge and skills and to work on the scientific basis for performing public health programs effectively in their own areas.    

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

 People who have graduated from the Master's Degree Program in Public Health can find a position at the central and provincial level of the Ministry of Health and its affiliates, including academic institutions, private corporations and non-governmental organizations related to the field of public health departments.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Students are required to complete the required courses during the two semesters of the first year. At least 21 local credit must courses and elective courses (at least 60 ECTS) must be provided. They may take courses from other programs that are not included in the list. The student can take elective courses for the preliminary work of thesis topic with recommendation of consultant after completion of required courses. Elective courses in the table, except for the courses in the Institute of Health Sciences, or other courses at the universities pool can be selected.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are described in the course info packs prepared by each instructor. For the examinations and pass grades, respective articles of the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Post-Graduate Studies and Examinations shall be applied.

D.16. Graduation Requirements
