D.1. General Information about Program

Nutrition and Food Sciences Masters Program is one of the post-graduate programs of Hacettepe University, Institute of Public Health.  Students enrolled in this program receive education on improving community nutrition, conducting epidemiological research and other programs, interpreting findings and generate solutions for common nutritional problems in the community.

After graduation, candidates have the opportunity to apply to the PhD program. Foreign students also have the opportunity to apply for the MSc Program.

The duration of the MSc Program is two years (four semesters). The first year (two semesters) consist of required and elective courses, whereas the second year consists of the thesis work. The medium of instruction is Turkish.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

 Medical faculty and other health sciences faculties and vocational school graduates can apply to this program.

The student candidates need to fulfill the requirements specified in the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Postgraduate Studies and Examinations.

To meet the application requirements of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations and Institute of Health Sciences.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to qualify for the Nutrition and Food Sciences MSc Degree, the students need to earn at least 120 ECTS/ 21 national credits, and to complete a thesis work.

During the course period, the students need to successfully complete courses (including the seminar course without any national credits) to earn at least 21 national credits (60 ECTS). At the end of the second semester, the students, who fulfill these criteria with an average academic score of at least 2.75, are allowed to submit their thesis proposal.

After completion of the thesis work, the candidate defends his/her thesis before a jury, and complete the MSc Program if he/she is successful in knowledge, interpretation, and synthesis parts of the thesis defence. In the thesis period (two semesters), the student earns 60 ECTS.

Students are allowed for lateral transfer, and credit transfer between programs according to the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Post-Graduate Studies and Examinations.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

 At the end of Nutrition and Food Sciences Masters Program, medical and other health sciences and vocational school graduates are expected to gain knowledge and skills to carry out epidemiological research and other activities/programs, to analyze the results and to develop solutions for prevention of prevalent nutritional diseases in order to promote the nutrition status of the community both at the local and the international (global) level(s). 

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

 Graduates of this program can continue their professional lives in the Ministry of Health and linked state-institutional bodies, municipalities, international organizations, private sector, etc.

The MSc graduate of this program can also continue in his/her medical and other health related faculty and vocational school graduate professional work.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Nutrition and Food Sciences Masters Program includes 4 semesters. The Program consists of at least 120 ECTS credits (21 national credits), composed of two semesters of course work (30 ECTS credits per semester), and two semesters of thesis work (30 ECTS credits per semester). The program includes required and elective courses from Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Education and Health Promotion, Health Management in Disaster programs. Upon advice of the consultant, students may select other courses available in the postgraduate programs of other institutes at Hacettepe University.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

The students should complete the 24 credits (at the minimum) from the required and elective courses successfully. The students should also carry out a thesis and present their thesis with success.

The students are obliged to the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Post-Graduate Studies and Examinations.
