D.1. General Information about Program

?Health Administration? PhD Program, as one of the degree programs of the Public Health Department at the Institute of Public Health.  The aim of the Health Administration? PhD Program is to provide program graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills in health administration concepts and practices, to accomplish the studies to improve the health status and the quality of life in the community, to gain necessary knowledge and skills to conduct and evaluate health administration programs and to contribute to the development of health administration field in Turkey.

The duration of the PhD Program is four years (eight semesters). The first three semesters consists of required and elective courses. At least 36 national credits that determined by the department must be taken and completed successfully during this period. "Ph.D. qualification exam preparation" course is taken in the fourth semester of the program.   The last four semesters consists of the thesis work for the students who are successful in the "qualification examination? at the end of the fourth semester. The qualification awarded upon completion of this Program is; PhD Degree in Public Health-Health Administration?.

The medium of instruction is Turkish.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The Program accepts graduates who hold an MSc degree in health administration or public health. Foreign students also have the opportunity to apply for the Program.

The student candidates need to fulfill the requirements specified in the By Law of Hacettepe University on Postgraduate Studies and Examinations.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The duration of the PhD Program is four years (eight semesters). Students must complete at least 90 ECTS (36 national credits) and "Ph.D. qualification exam preparation" course (21 ECTS) to get a doctoral degree in health administration. A seminar course (21 ECTS) taken as a non-credit course, must complete successfully.

The results of examinations of the courses should be at least 3.0 according to the Stanza system Students who pass the PhD qualification exam start thesis preparation phases

Thesis prepared at the end PhD study must be accomplished one of the attributes of introducing an innovation to science, development of a new scientific method and application of a known method to a new field.  120 ECTS is taken with thesis that prepared in four semesters Students are considered to completed the doctoral program successfully by preparing a thesis carries scientific qualifications with the leadership of a consultant at this stage and if they are  "successful"  on knowledge, interpretation and synthesis areas matters related to his study  in the jury examination

The students are subject to the By Law of Hacettepe University on Postgraduate Studies and Examinations.

Students are allowed for lateral transfer, and credit transfer between programs according to the By Law of Hacettepe University on Post-Graduate Studies and Examinations.

Students who complete Health Administration program will be able to;

  • to plan and carry out research, and evaluate the results with applying assessment and evaluation methods and approaches of administration on level of expertise
  • to implement management theories, principles and methods to the health care field, to develop, and evaluate program;
  • to produce scientific thought and methods in the field of health administration

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of this Program have the opportunity to work in different departments of the Ministry of Health (e.g. General Directorate of Health Promotion), and affiliated institutions (e.g. Public Health Agency of Turkey), as well as the provincial public health directorates, community health centers (TSM), directorates of health affairs in the municipalities, international organizations, private sector, and non-governmental organizations. Graduates of this program also have the opportunity to continue with an academic career in universities.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

This doctorate program consists of 8 semesters. The program consists of at least 21 ECTS courses in the first 4 semesters and at least 240 ECTS credits in the last 4 semesters, with a total of 120 ECTS credits for the thesis period.

Students have to complete the compulsory courses in the first year (two semesters). Required credits are provided from elective courses. Depending on the advisor's recommendation and the student's acceptance, courses from other programs that are not included in the health management doctoral course list can also be taken. Prerequisites for elective courses (if any) are included in the course descriptions. Students who take the compulsory courses can take elective courses for their field of interest and the thesis subject for which they will prepare their preliminary studies, in line with the approval of their advisor. The compulsory courses of the program are aimed at basic theoretical studies that will form the basis of studies in the field of health management. Elective courses are taken so that the student can head towards the field of study that he / she is interested in.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are described in the course info packs prepared by each instructor. After completing their courses in four semesters, students need to pass the PhD qualification exam before they continue with their thesis work. For the examinations and pass grades, respective articles of the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Post-Graduate Studies and Examinations shall be applied.

To successfully complete the ?Health Administration? PhD Program, the students need to take required and elective courses of the program to earn at least 36 national credits, pass the PhD qualification exam, write a thesis within the scope of the program topics, and defend their thesis successfully to earn a total of 240 ECTS credits. The students are subject to the By Law of Hacettepe University on Postgraduate Studies and Examinations.
