D.1. General Information about Program

The strongest aspect of the Second Cycle Non-Thesis Master's Program in Social Work to be carried out under Hacettepe University Graduate School of Social Sciences is its educational staff and its pioneering role in undergraduate, graduate and doctoral education for years. In addition, the most innovative and advantageous aspect of the program is that students have the opportunity to specialize in the field of social work they are interested in (medical and psychiatric social work, social work with families, social work with children and youth) due to the opportunities to choose courses from other programs within the Institute and the high number of elective courses.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Those having a university diploma in any field can apply for the program.

2. There is no minimum grade-point average (GPA) requirement.

3. There is no requirement for an ALES or Foreign Language Exam certificate. However, if the applicant submits a certificate, the following weighting schema will be used in evaluation (for those not submitting a certificate for ALES or Foreign Language, the score is considered to be zero).

Evaluation Criteria:

ALES Score: 20%

Foreign Language Score: 10 %

GPA: 30%

Interview: 40%

4. International students' applications are accepted in line within “Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

5. The provisions which are not covered above will be implemented in accordance with the relevant provisions of Hacettepe University's Regulations on Graduate Education and Examination.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

1. Social Work Master's Program without Thesis is composed of 13 courses (2 of them being compulsory and the total of courses being no less the 38 national credits-90 ECTS). 2. The program is composed of three academic semesters. 3. TheSemester Project course s taken at the last semester. Students check in the course at the beginning of the semester nd submit a project report to their academic advisors at the end. There are three branches students can follow: Students who want to focus on the field of heath can take following elective courses besides others:

  • Comparative Health Policies and Services
  • Psychiatric SocialWork
  • Medical Social Work
  • Substance Abuse and Social Work
  • Cancer and Social Work
Students who want to focus on the field family welfare can take following elective courses besides others:
  • Social Work with Families
  • Comparative Family Policies and Services
  • Family Theories
  • Violence in the Family and Social Work
  • Poverty, Family and Social Work
  • Broken Families and Social Work
  • Family Mediation
Students who want to focus on the field of child and youth welfare can take following elective courses besides others:
  • Social Work with Children and the Youth
  • Comparative Child and Youth Policies and Services
  • Child Abuse and Neglect and Social Work
  • Street Children and Social Work
  • Children in Need of Protection and Social Work
  • Childrenin Conflict with the Law and Social Work

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The objective of the master's program is to train social workers for a range of leadership and advanced practice roles one of the fields of family welfare, child and youth welfare or health settings of social work. While students will be prepared to practice at specific intervention levels, and with specialized skills, all will be thoroughly grounded in knowledge of psychosocial development, social welfare policies, and social work organizations.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

The students who complete totally 90 ECTS hours by taking compulsory and elective courses offered by the program and by doing practice, and also who prepare semester project under the supervision of a supervisor are eligible to get non-thesis master of social work diploma.
