D.1. General Information about Program

The Human Rights Department was established in the year 1999. The department is conducting two programmes – M.A. and Ph.D programmes. The purpose of the programmes is to contribute to the education of individuals who know what human rights are and what each human right demands, and who are able to find out in various situations what should be done for the protection of human rights.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Candidates must have been graduated from a four year undergraduate program

2. Candidates must receive minimum 55 standard score in one of the verbal or equally-weighted scores from Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) which has been done by Evaluation, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) or international exams such as GRE and GMAT whose equivalence are approved by the Hacettepe University Senate.

3. Candidates must receive minimum 60 score from Foreign Language Exam (YDS, YÖKDİL) or from one of the international or national exams whose equivalence and validity are approved by ÖSYM.

4. If it is required, candidates are supposed to take Scientific Preparation courses which are determined by Department.

5. International students' applications are accepted in line within ?Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

Candidates who meet the above application requirements are taken to the program entrance exam. Candidates who get the minimum score determined by the department in the written and/or interview examination are considered successful. The ranking of successful candidates is made by the overall success grade.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to graduate from the department, students have to take the must and elective courses with total amount of 120 ECTS. In order to graduate from the program, Hacettepe University's Regulations on Graduate Education and Examination are must be applied.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The recognition of the courses which belong to students' prior learning is organized through Hacettepe University graduate education regulations.

Exchange students must take into account that their courses are recognized only if there is a similar course in their home university and providing that the instructor and the head of the department approve the recognition.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The objective of this Human Rights Program is to train human rights instructors, primarily those who give the course on human rights and democracy at different levels of pre-university education, and to equip public officers with the necessary knowledge of human rights.

Our graduates find position in university departments of Human Rights, in private and public educational institutions, in related units of various ministries, in media including TRT, and in the units of education, culture, human relations, planning and assessment of various private and public corporations.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Back

Program consists of lectures and seminar which is in total 120 ECTS*. It is mostly an academic program, in first two semesters students must have take the must and compulsory courses, which are consist of 51 ECTS and a seminar (9 ECTS). Students which are succeed in those courses, prepares the M.A. Thesis with their advisors for two semesters (60 ECTS). After defending the M.A. Thesis successfully, the students have the M.A. degree in Human Rights.

* 1 ECTS corresponds to 30 workload.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from the department, students have to take (totally 120 ECTS) the must and elective courses with total amount of 60 ECTS and must write a M.A. Thesis (60 ECTS) and defend it. 

In order to graduate from the programme, Hacettepe University Regulations on Graduate Education and Examination are must be applied.
