D.1. General Information about Program

Back

As one of the oldest program in the country, the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Master's Program has traditionally contributed to establishment of new counseling programs at various universities in Turkey by training qualified young counselors/scholars. The program also train counselors equipped with skills to work at a variety of counseling settings.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

Students are admitted to the degree program based upon standards specified by H.U. Graduate Education and Examination Guide. Persons holding bachelor's degrees in the areas of Psychological Counseling and Guidance, Psychological Services in Education (only Psychological Counseling and Guidance Program) and Psychology can apply to the program. Specific admission criteria involve students' GPAs, their scores on foreign language and on the national Graduate Education Examination as well as their scores on the oral examination (interview) by the admission committee at the Division of Psychological Counseling and Guidance.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students are awarded the master's degree upon successful completion of the coursework of 120 ECTS (half of which involve course work and the other half thesis work), within a two-year span as well as successful completion of their master's theses.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Prior learning experiences are recognized in accordance with the criteria specified in the H.U. Graduate Education and Examination Guide.

The purpose of the program is to train master's level psychological counseling and guidance students as researchers, leaders and practitioners with comprehensive breadth and depth of knowledge/skills in sub-areas of counseling (school counseling, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy and student personnel services); equipped with an array of skills and knowledge to work with diverse populations at various counseling settings and as individuals committed to high ethical standards; human rights and improvement of human well-being and the field of psychological counseling and guidance.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

While some of the graduates work at school settings or pursue doctoral degrees in order to work at universities as faculty members others work at a variety of settings including private counseling centers, army and police headquarters, courts of family and children and other health or industrial institutions.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The program is consisted of 20 courses of which 4 (20%) are required and 16 (80%) are electives. 

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment for each course is subject to its respective instructor's choice. On the other hand, the instructors essentially follow principles specified by Hacettepe University's Graduate Education Examination Guide.
