D.1. General Information about Program

The department was established as the “Department of Education” in 1967-1968 academic year in Hacettepe University. Prof. Dr. Yahya Kemal KAYA, Prof. Dr. Mustafa AYDIN and Prof. Dr. Sudi BÃœLBÃœL are among the pioneers of our division. In 1982 with the establishment of Faculty of Education, Department of Education was turned into Department of Educational Sciences, and the divisions were determined. Our division has provided both graduate education and courses for teaching certificate since its establishment.

The purpose of the Division of Educational Administration Supervision Planning and Economics is to provide for schools and Ministry of National Education and other institutions with educational administrators and supervisors; to provide for related departments of universities with academic staff; to enhance professional competencies of teachers, administrators and supervisors of Ministry of National Education; to train professionals in the field of school administration and educational supervision. The medium of instruction is Turkish.

We offer the candidates to specialize on educational administration, educational economics and educational supervision.

The Ph.D. program which is directed by leading academicians, requires a 4 years time with the dissertation included. Program is open to everybody who have the required bachelor's and master's degree qualifications. The program also has a scientific preparatory program for graduates of other faculties.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Program includes 31 credit- courses, of which 8 are compulsory and 3 are elective. On the other hand, Program's total ECTC are 240. Its' 120 credits are gained from the courses and the remain are from a Ph.D thesis. Courses are taught within the first 4 semesters of the program. A course namely, " Preparation to Doctoral Proficiency Exam" is alone given in 4th semester with the ECTC of 30. Elective courses may be chosen from the program itself or from other Ph.D programs. Some requirements and regalutions are listed below.

  1. For the students who have a master degree from a different university or a different discipline, Scientific Preparation Program is carried out. Program courses for which accepted students to the program are responsible, are decided depending on students' transcripts by the approval of Academic Board of Division.
  2. Program courses must be taken in sequence.
  3. The students must get at least a B3 grade (70-74/100) for each one of the courses.
  4. To be able to complete the program, the students must pass the proficiency examination and prepare and defend a dissertation successfully. A student must have at least 3.00/4.00 cumulative grade point average to be accepted to the proficiency examination.
  5. The remaining requirements and regulations are specified in The Regulation for Graduate Education and Examination of Hacettepe University.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The students of our program may be exempt from some of our courses regarding certain arrangements. A students may be exempt from a course if the content of the course taken from a different institution is the same of the course given in Hacettepe University, and if the institute directorate confirms it.

The transfer students accepted from different universities' similar institutes may be exempt from the courses taken prior in that university if the corresponding committee confirms. The students graduated from different programs are accepted for our scientific preparatory program which may be two semesters at most, upon suggestion of the interview jury and the positive opinion of the chair of the division by the institute board's decision.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Program arranged as 31 national credits at least and its equivalent of 240 ECTS. It consists of 8 compulsory and 3 elective courses, a proficiency exam and a dissertation that equals to 120 ECTS credits. To be able to graduate from the program, the student should have a GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 at least completing 240 ECTS., pass the proficiency examination and get a B3 (70-74/100) / G grade at least for each course.Program has also some prerequisete courses. The proportion of ECTS credits of the program are as follow; must courses 75%, elective courses 25%. Elective courses may be choosen from the program itself and other programs (incuding other universities) providing the consent of supervisor and requirements of local / ECTS credits.
