D.1. General Information about Program

The Department of Anthropology at the Institude of Social Science offers a two-year formal education. The language of instruction is Turkish.

Anthropology Department, being one of the first founded division at the university, have an important role in scientific field since 1971. The Biological Anthropology Laboratory at the department with its equipments and supplies and rich human skeletal collection dated to different historic periods of Anatolia offers an elusive study opportunity to students and researchers.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Students who are accepted to register in the Anthropology master program should have diplomas from a four-year undergraduate program or get an equivalent education abroad whose equivalence are approved by the relevant institutions

2. Received 60 score of ALES at any qualification fields or international exams whose equivalence are approved by the University Senate,

3. Received 55 score of YDS whose standard point are determined by the University Senate or received base point from any national or international language exams like ÃœDS,KPDS, TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) whose international validity are accepted.

Candidates who fulfill the basic requirements will enter the written and oral exams to determine the level and actualizm of their knowledge. The head of department and exam jury may ask the candidates to follow scientific preparation program who passed the scientific exam but did not complete undergraduate education at the anthropology field . The scientific preparation courses will be completed in one or two semesters. The relevant articles in the Examination Regulation of Hacettepe University Graduate Education are used for the lateral transfer, acceptance of special students and foreign students. To get a master degree in Anthropology, it is required to complete 60 ECTS credits (total 24 national credits) from courses and have at least 2,75 general academic avarege out of 4,00, and submited a thesis (total 60 ECTS from Special Topics courses) and succeed in it (total 120 ECTS to success in master programme). The relevant articles in the Examination Regulation of Hacettepe University Graduate Education are used for the graduation and getting diploma.

The Anthropology master program is a program which examine, search and evaluate the cultures, populations and human beings holistically with regards to biologic and cultural diversity of them raises Anthropologists who are sensible to humanity, society and moral values; respectful to themselves and around; qualified in their profession; in pursuit of life-long learning; supportive of scientific way of thinking; open to different thoughts and cultures, able to think creatively and critically.

Graduates of Anthropology Department can work as instructors, research assistants at universities; as Anthropologist at public and private institutions and organizations, and in the relevant departments of Ministries.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Anthropology Master Program consists of 4 terms. Teaching Program consists of 16 courses, of which 3 are compulsory, a Seminars course and 13 are elective and 30 ECTS each term and 120 ECTS credits totally. One ECTS is equal to 25 hours of work load. In first two terms, 13 elective courses are provided comprising 80 % of the curriculum. In accordance with the studying subject, students can take courses from other departments providing that not more than 25 % of total load (maximum 16 ECTS).

Testing and evaluation methods implemented in the courses are defined in the “course instructional plan” which takes place in the information package. The relevant articles in the Examination Regulation of Hacettepe University Graduate Education are used for the exams and final grades.

Students are required to take provided courses in return for 120 ECTS credits (24 national credits) and succeed in them; have a general academic average of 2.75 out of 4.00; submit a thesis and succeed in it, to be able to graduate from the program. The relevant articles of the Hacettepe University Graduate Study, Education and Examination Regulations are used for graduation and getting certificate.
