D.1. General Information about Program

The Institute of Neurological Sciences and Psychiatry at Hacettepe University was founded in accordance with law no. 41. issued on July.20.1982 and grants M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in accordance with law no 2547 section 3/f.

Neuroscience program provides Ph.D. education in Turkish since 1991-1992 and, in English, since 2014-2015 academic years.

It is the first Neuroscience Ph.D. Program in Turkey.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

M.D.-Ph.D. students, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Pediatric Neurology specialists and the medical graduates having a post-graduate (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) or specialty degree in basic or clinical medical disciplines, Biology or Molecular Biology graduates from the Science Faculty or Faculty of Arts and Sciences having M.Sc. degree and, students who received their medical (M.D.) or master's degree in life sciences from a university abroad are accepted to the neuroscience Ph.D. program.

To meet the application requirements of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations and Institute of Health Sciences.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

PhD program consists of courses, thesis proposal, thesis defense examination.

Students admitted to the PhD program with a master's degree must successfully complete course load of 21 credits and according to the European Credit Transfer System students must successfully complete course load of 120 credits and 120 credits of thesis study.

For the student to graduate, academic avarage of at least 3 over 4, as well as being successful in the dissertation exam are required.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The relevant regulation rules apply to the recognition of the education received by a student who previously studied at a higher education institution in Turkey or abroad;

Academic recognition of the education of these students who studied for a certain period of time in another higher education institution is determined by the decision of the academic board.

Aims: To train Ph.D.?s who will be able to conduct scientific research and give education in the field of neuroscience at global level.

Learning objectives: To enable students to grasp and follow up-to-date scientific information, critically examine scientific publications, independently conduct scientific research and to acquire capacity for training qualified scientists.

The majority of the students who have graduated from the program serve as faculty members in public or private universities in Turkey and some of them hold scientific positions at universities abroad.

There are 4 obligatory and 22 elective courses in the program. PhD students can take elective courses from other PhD programs, university course pool and Master of science without thesis program.

Neuroscience PhD students will have an international level education after having obligatory and elective courses throughout 3 semesters.

PhD students will be able to determine and solve a scientific problem with original ideas and methods in the period of the thesis.

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are prepared by the instructor/s of the course and, are described in the Course Teaching Plans. D.16. Graduation Requirements

After successful completion of all the requirements of the PhD program, students must submit all of the below documents to the Institute of Health Sciences to graduate

 a) Three copies of dissertation thesis prepared, printed and bound in accordance with the instructions of the Institute of Health Sciences

b)  A digital copy of the thesis and other documents required by the Institute of Health Sciences

c) The documents required by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) 

After submission of all the related documents and information about the student, the board of directors of the Institute of Health Sciences examines the student's file and decides for the graduation of the student who fulfills all the requirements.
