D.7. Goals and Objectives

Back

The proposed program is designed to provide academically oriented interdisciplinary training aimed at providing post-specialist scientific formation that is needed in clinical branches of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Radiology and not covered by subspecialty education. It is a program destined to meet the demand for specialists who will establish systems for acute stroke diagnosis and care and will steer regional stroke centers. The program aims to develop knowledge and skills in the area of stroke by providing advanced clinical and applied education. The program does not aim to provide a subspeciality diploma, but rather aims to improve the academic progress in a specialized field of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Radiology in candidates who have already completed their residency training in the aferomentioned medical disciplines. Considering the fact that stroke and neurovascular disorders are a very prevalent disease group, being the most common second cause of mortality in Turkey, and the recent developments in stroke/neurovascular diseases treatment from the perspective of neurocritical care, thrombolytic and endovascular treatment, have led to the emergence of a demand for the education of specialists who will closely follow and apply these innovations. These services are currently still carried out by faculty members who were trained abroad, but their numbers are not sufficient to respond to the needs of our country.
