D.1. General Information about Program

Back

The history of Wind and Percussion Instrument branches (Flute-Oboe-Clarinet-Bassoon-French Horn-Trumpet-Trombone-Tuba-Percussion Ins.) under the Music Department, dates back to the establishment of Music Teacher's College in 1936 (Musiki Muallim Mektebi). After inclusion into the “Council of Higher Education” in 1982, Ankara State Conservatory was connected to Hacettepe University and these branches gathered together under the name of “Wind and Percussion Instruments Mainart Department” and was restructured again. “Master's Degree in Art” and “Efficiency in Art Programs” started to give education in 1996-1997 Academic year.

This program has been acquired by Hacettepe University Institute of Fine Arts on Fall 2012 semester.

Wind and Percussion Instruments Department, with its “Bachelor's Degree”, “Master's Degree in Art” and “Efficiency in Art” Programs, educates students to become artists and educators for national and international orchestras and educational institutions, with all sub-disciplines of wind and percussion instruments, by using modern methods and techniques.

The graduates from Hacettepe University State Conservatory, Wind and Percussion Instruments Department, Flute-Oboe-Clarinet-Bassoon-French Horn-Trumpet-Trombone-Percussion Instruments Art Sections or the candidates acquired the diploma equal to this can apply and be accepted after an exam and audition.

Examinations:

Performance and interview: The candidates must perform a program with accompaniment. The program (concerto, sonata and studies) information can be obtained from the Hacettepe University State Conservatory, Wind and Percussion Instruments Department . The students will be evaluated during the interview by being questioned about their intentions in their field of study and the way they express their aims by speech.

To graduate from Wind and Percussion Instruments Mainart Department Master's in Art Degree, students must achieve minimum 24 national credits and 120 ECTS credits.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The aim of Wind and Percussion Instruments Master's Degree is to educate artists and educators for national and international orchestras and educational institutions with musical and technical skills, equipped with information, ability and attitudes to become a successful educationist by making an academic career, internalized art ethics, closely monitoring and contributing to the developments in his/her field, predictive, respectful, participant and a high level of aesthetic appreciation open to innovations and developments.

The fields of study for Master's Degree in Art graduates of Wind and Percussion Instruments are summarized as follows;

Working as a performer with appropriate professional qualifications in national and international symphony orchestras, opera orchestras and chamber music groups or making an academic career working as a researcher and faculty member of conservatories and music schools.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

This program offers requiered lessons of 13 national credits. Students must achieve at least 11 national credits and 30 ECTS credits for elective courses and at least 24 national credits in total (including the elective courses). Wind and Percussion Instruments Department offers 12 national credits and 30 ECTS credits of elective courses. The elective courses can be taken from Wind and Percussion Instruments Department, from the Concervatory and the Institute's common elective courses.

This program offers 120 ECTS credits in total which is devided as 90 for required courses and 30 for elective courses.

This program's courses are per semester and there are no prerequisite courses. After passing the required and elective courses and gaining 24 national and 60 ECTS credits, the students are eligible to pass to the period of preparing their thesis.

1 ECTS is equivalent to a student workload of 30.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

The students who have acquired conditions specified in the regulations and gained the 24 national credits must, in the following term;

1-Give a Finishing Graduate RECITAL, which will be evaluated by the jury, according to the program defined by their adviser. The recital is held open to the audience.

2- The Candidates are to prepare a Thesis, defined by their thesis adviser.

Hacettepe University's, Graduate Degree Examination Regulations 43rd article shall apply for the graduation conditions.
