D.1. General Information about Program

The Master of Science program in Mathematics has started together with the foundation of department of Mathematics. The media of education is in Turkish. The thesis language is also Turkish, however the thesis can be written in another language with the permission of administrative board of graduate institute of natural sciences.

MSc. Degree studies are carried out in the following branches of mathematics:

• Algebra and Number Theory
• Theory of Functions and Functioanl Analysis
• Geometry
• Fundamentals of Mathematics and Mathematical Logic
• Topology
• Applied Mathematics

We have a classroom reserved for graduate courses in our department. Students can use the computer labs in our department. They can also benefit from social and cultural activities carried out in the campuses of Hacettepe University.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The candidates who wish to apply for our MSc. Programme should satisfy the requirements adopted by the senate and anounced by the graduate institute of natural sciences (see  Regulations concerning graduate education degree and exams in Hacettepe University).

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The MSc. Program in Mathematics consists of courses no less than 21 credits(60 ECTS) and a thesis study(60 ECTS). The student has to complete 120 ECTS of workload for a MSc. Degree. The student who has been successful in compulsory courses of the program and who has made 2.5 CPGA out of 4 in the first two semesters, can defend a thesis proposal at the end of the second semester, see  Regulations concerning graduate education degree and exams in Hacettepe University.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The Master of Science program in Mathematics aims to elevate qualified individuals who has acquired certain indispensible abilities and knowledge, can deal with mathematical problems within a wide perspective, have developed their researcher side and can pursue the latest developments in their fields.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Our graduates have the opportunity to work in a wide range of employment sectors; academics, informatics(software engineering, computer technician, etc.), finance and banking, service industry are several of those employment sectors. State employment is also possible.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The MSc. Program of Mathematics lasts for 4 semesters. The program consists of courses no less than 21 credits (60 ECTS) and a thesis study (60 ECTS). The workload is 120 ECTS in total. 25 ECTS credits of the courses are compulsory and 35 ECTS credits are elective. The %46.6 of the courses are in elective status.

At most two of the courses that the MSc. Student can take, may be chosen out of undergraduate courses with the condition that the student has not taken the undergraduate course before. See   Regulations concerning graduate education degree and exams in Hacettepe University.

The universities from which our master students can take courses are determined by the Academic Board of our department. The course\courses taken at another university by students of the Mathematics Department at Hacettepe University Faculty of Science is/are examined in terms of equivalent credit, curriculum, etc. and with the approval of related department students may be exempt from course\courses with a proposal from the department finalized by Administrative Board of Faculty.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The evaluation and grading of each course is regulated by its own ?course syllabus? that is included in the information package concerning evaluation and grading system. Evaluation of exams and letter grades are done according to ?Regulations concerning graduate education degree and exams in Hacettepe University?.
