D.1. General Information about Program

The Master's Program offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering started in 2009. This program is administered by the Institute for Graduate Studies in Science and Engineering. The language of instruction of the program is Turkish.

In the program, theoretical and applied research and development are carried out in the fields of automotive, thermal-fluid systems and energy technology, system dynamics, control and mechatronic, solid mechanics and design with graduating engineers specialized in these areas. Multidisciplinary projects, and university-industry collaboration related thesis works separate this program from other similar programs.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

Applications, admissions, and enrollments follow the rules and provisions of ‘'Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exams Regulations''. Applicants from national/international universities with Bachelor degrees in Mechanical, Materials, Mechatronics, Energy, Production/Manufacturing Engineering or 4-year bachelor degrees whose qualifications are approved by the Departmental Academic Commitee may apply for addmission. All applicants must have obtained minimum scores, determined by the university senate, from LES/ALES or GRE exams. All applicants must have foreign language proficiency, and international students must also have Turkish language proficiency. Detailed information about the language proficiency requirements can be found in the relevant articles of the ‘' Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulations''.

If required, accepted students may be asked to take Scientific Preparation Program Courses following the propositions of the Departmental Academic Commiteee and approvals of the Department Chair and Board of the Institute for Graduate Studies in Science and Engineering.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Master's students of the Mechanical Engineering Department have to take and successfully complete at least seven courses with 24 national credits, as well as a seminar course with no credit. These courses have to be approved by student's advisor and the Department Head. The total ECTS credits of the courses and the seminer are 60. Students have to complete a total of 120 ECTS credits with 60 ECTS credits allocated to the thesis.

Students are also allowed to take take undergraduate or graduate courses courses offered by other departments in the university or other universities so as to complete their credit requirements with the approval of their advisors. Graduate students can take at most two of the courses which are found appropriate and confirmed by the department from the undergraduate courses provided that the courses were not taken by the student during his/her undergraduate education.

Students who successfully complete their course requirements must prepare a thesis under the supervision of a faculty member acting as their advisor. The thesis proposals are submitted to the Department for the approvals of the Departmental Academic Commiteee, Department Chair and Board of the Institute for Graduate Studies in Science and Engineering. Thesis preparation and defence procedures follow the relavant articles of ‘'Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exams Regulations''.

The aim of the program is to educate mechanical engineers who are equipped with world-class research, development and design skills in the areas of Thermal-Fluid Systems and Energy, Dynamics, Control and Mechatronics, Mechanics and Design and Materials and Manufacturing and pioneer technological development compatible with national needs, and contribute to the national and international technology through knowledge dissemination.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Mechanical Engineering Department Graduate program consists of 4 concentration areas. Thermal-Fluid Systems and Energy Area, Dynamics, Control and Mechatronics Area, Mechanics and Design Area and Materials and Manufacturing Area.

Students who are accepted to the program must complete 24 national credit courses including seminar course corresponding to the required courses and concentration areas they have chosen. Moreover, they must complete successfully at least one course out of the concentration area.

If one of the required courses in any concentration area is not offered by the department, student may take any of the courses from other concentration areas to complete their credit requirements.

The procedure of assessment and evaluation for each course is defined in the course information package which is prepared by the corresponding faculty members. Examinations and grading follow the relavant articles of ‘'Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exams Regulations''.
