The Department of Industrial Engineering at Hacettepe University was established in 2004. The Department serves in its own building, having 4 floors and an effective area of 900 m2. The Master Program in Industrial Engineering has been active since the spring semester of 2012-2013 Academic Year. The medium of instruction of the Master Program is Turkish. The first two semesters of the Master Program are composed of compulsory and elective courses, whereas the last two semesters are allocated to the Special Topics (Master's Thesis). Facilities for the applications of the courses are Computer Aided Education, Simulation, Quality Engineering and Health Care Systems Engineering Laboratories. Seminars are organized in the Department of Industrial Engineering on a regular basis to discuss the technological and scientific activities. Students have the chance to meet national and international expert speakers in these seminars.

Applications of the students who apply for a transfer to the Master Program in Industrial Engineering after studying at another graduate program at a national and international higher education institution are evaluated by the Academic Board of the Academic Program according to the 49th Article of the Hacettepe University's Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations. Admission and transfer of credits and course grades for eligible students are approved by the Administration Board of the Institute of Science.
The objective of Master Program in Industrial Engineering is to have the students to acquire the necessary advanced knowledge, skills and abilities; to effectively utilize the scarce resources such as man, machine, material, energy, capital and time; as well as to design, analyze, plan, monitor and improve all processes, products and systems in an innovative and original way. Development of novel industrial engineering methods, tools and technologies as well as development of solutions to national industrial engineering problems in both production and service sectors is aimed.
The industrial engineering methodology and its applications are not limited to a specific sector or a field of activity. Therefore, industrial engineers can be employed in many small and large scale companies and enterprises of public and private sector in all industries. There is a quite wide occupational profile of the industrial engineers who are employed as decision makers at all levels and practitioners in the design, analysis, planning, monitoring and improvement of every process, product and system. Among the common employment areas are; production planning, quality management, project/program management, capacity and workforce planning, purchasing, logistics, cost and financial accounting, system analysis, business development, risk management, inventory control, supply chain management, enterprise resource planning, research and development, human resources and information technology.

The Master Program in Industrial Engineering consists of a total of 120 ECTS credits to be acquired in 4 semesters. It especially emphasizes the skills and competencies stated in the program outcomes. 80 ECTS credits are allocated to compulsory courses whereas 40 ECTS credits are for the elective courses. All the elective courses are allocated for the in-field electives.
Out of 80 ECTS credits allocated for compulsory courses, 1 ECTS credits are for the seminar and 60 ECTS credits are for the the Special Topics (Master's Thesis). The elective courses for which 40 ECTS credits have been reserved in the Master Program in Industrial Engineering are intended for the skills and competencies to be acquired in the Industrial Engineering specialty areas and they can be enrolled starting with the first semester. Elective courses should be taken, with the consent of the course advisor, from the Elective Courses of the Master Program in Industrial Engineering and from other programs which are approved by the Academic Board of the Program. A student might register for up to two undergraduate courses, if not enrolled during the undergraduate education, by the consent of the Chair of the Academic Program.
If an admitted student has a deficiency regarding the academic background, he may be requested to attend the Deficiency Program for at most one year, according to the 47th Article of the Hacettepe University's Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations, by the approval of the Administration Board of the Institute of Science upon the suggestion of the Chair of the Academic Program.
