D.1. General Information about Program

The PhD program in Industrial Engineering to be offered by the Academic Board of Industrial Engineering  is accepting students starting from the Spring Semester of 2018-2019 Academic Year. The first three semesters of the PhD Program are composed of compulsory and elective courses, whereas the fourth semester is allocated to the PhD qualifying exam studies and the last four semesters are for the PhD dissertation. Within the scope of the PhD program to be carried out in Turkish, it is aimed to develop the students? technical knowledge, skills and competency to discover the research potential and to be experts in the determined areas of industrial engineering. The program targets a research oriented education at areas such as operation research, data driven decision making, production system design etc. Seminars are organized in the Department of Industrial Engineering on a regular basis to discuss the technological and scientific activities. Students have the chance to meet national and international expert speakers in these seminars. D.4. Provisions for Registration

In order to apply for the PhD Program in Industrial Engineering, a graduate degree from the programs offered by Informatics and Science Institutes or other programs accepted by the Academic Board of the Program. All applications, admissions and registration procedures are governed by the Hacettepe University?s Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations. The program quota is decided by the Executive Board of the Science Institute upon the proposal by the Academic Board of the Program.

The following requirements should be satisfied in order to graduate from the PhD program in Industrial Engineering:

  • To acquire the minimum ECTS credits as summarized below, according to the structure of the program.
    • ECTS Credits: Compulsory – 160, Electives – 80, Total – 240
  • Successful defense of a PhD dissertation proposed and carried out according to the 40th-44th Articles of the Hacettepe University's Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications of the students who apply for a transfer to the PhD Program in Industrial Engineering after studying at another PhD program at a national and international higher education institution are evaluated by the Academic Board according to the related articles of the Hacettepe University's Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations. Admission and transfer of credits and course grades for eligible students are approved by the Administration Board of the Institute of Science

The PhD program in Industrial Engineering aims to develop the students' knowledge, skills and competency to make advanced researches related with the effective and efficient utilization of scarce resources; original design, analysis, planning, management, monitoring and improvement of process, product and systems; producing effective solutions for decision making problems.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The PhD Program in Industrial Engineering consists of a total of 240 ECTS credits to be acquired in 8 semesters. In the program emphasizing the skills and competencies in the program outcomes, as presented in Appendix 1, 10 ECTS credits are for the seminar, 30 ECTS credits are for Preparation for the PhD Qualifying Exam studies, and 120 ECTS credits are for the PhD Thesis. The elective courses for which 80 ECTS credits have been reserved in the PhD program and they can be registered starting from the first semester.  A student might register for up to two courses offered by other high education institutions with the approval of the Administration Board of the Institute of Science upon the suggestion of the Academic Board of the Program. There is not a compulsory internship within the scope of the program.
