D.1. General Information about Program

The Primary Education Program has been established as The Department of Primary Education in the 1991–1992 academic year, to educate classroom teachers for primary schools. However, as the Faculties of Education reorganized in the 1997–1998 academic year, Department of Elementary Education has been established and The Primary Education Program continued its education under this department. Student acceptance to Non-thesis Master's Program of Science of Elementary Teaching of Our University's Institute of Educational Sciences was started as of Spring Semester of 2013-2014 Academic Year.

Admission Requirements for Non-thesis Master's Program of Science of Elementary Teaching listed below;

Being graduated from a 4 yeared undergraduate program (B.A, B.F.A, B.S. etc).
To fulfill the other admission requirements of Institute of Educational Sciences (http://www.egitimbilimlerienstitusu.hacettepe.edu.tr).
A minimum score of 50 from entrance exam is required for all students to succeed . A weighted total of 50% of graduation score and 50% of entrance exam score should be at least 60.
In case of more than expected applications, total scores of; 30% of ALES or equivalent, 30% of graduation score, 10% of English exam (if any) and 30% of interview score, range from maximum to minimum.

Hacettepe University Institute of Educational Sciences Graduate Education and Exam Guidelines' provisions will be applied. For more information please visit http://www.egitimbilimlerienstitusu.hacettepe.edu.tr/yonetmelikler.html . Students accepted to the program should take and succeed at least 32 national credits of courses and Term Project course. Students should take at least 90 ECTS (74 ECTS for courses and 16 ECTS for term Project) with regard to Europen Credit Transfer System. Term Project course can be taken at last semester. Student enrolls to term Project course at the beginning of relevant semester and files a report to his/her advisor. In order to get graduated from the program, student has to be succeed in term Project course and has to have at least 2.50 of academical average.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

In Turkish higher education institutions, recognition of previous formal education, vertical, horizontal and within university transitions are determined by the related regulations of the Council of Higher Education (YOK) . A limited number of courses can be transfered between departments or a student may continue his/her education in a different department as long as conditions identified by the regulations are met. Since recognizing an informal education is at very early stages in Turkish Higher Education, YOK does not recognize education other than formal learning experiences.

Non-thesis Master's Program of Science of Elementary Teaching of Hacettepe University aims at: supporting teachers in their trainning for becoming individuals who gain basics of theoretical knowledge in the light of modern educational conceptions and applications, apply this knowledge basics effectively in different types of schools (village, city, public, private…), shape the improvement of these schools, their students and society, perpetuate national and international co-operations and career development, have a high level of tenderness to society and environment; and also providing opportunities to individuals that work in different professions for regenaration and development of themselves with regard to the necessities of the time; and producing scientific knowledge which will perpetuate and enable this process.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of Non-thesis Master's Program of Science of Elementary Teaching are able to work as scientific specialists at universities' teaching and research positions, private schools, public schools and research, programming, supervision and administration services of various units of the Ministry of National Education, private teaching institutions, educational materials design and marketing, sectors like publication corporations, publishing firms, workshops which design educational materials.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Non-thesis Master's Program of Science of Elementary Teaching is a 3 semestered program. Courses of the program are 53% compulsory and 47% elective. Students are obliged to take elective courses in proportion to 47% of their total credit. Therefore, students are able to take any courses as an elective course from any other graduate programs of Institute of Educational Sciences, with respect to their interests and needs.
