Department of Economics provides a high quality, Turkish language based graduate program for prospective students to earn Ph.D. degree in Economics. The participating academic staff and course contents are chosen specifically to provide the necessary tools and expertise to the students, preparing them with strong background for the highly competitive international academic and business environments. Students are expected to complete the program in four years. After completing the course requirements in the first two years of the program, students have to take their comprehensive exams. Upon successful completion of their exams, students will be assigned to advisors that will direct them to proceed with their research.

1. To hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from accredited institution and at least one of the degrees should be in Economics.
2. Applicants are required to score at least 70 standard points from equally weight categories of the Academic Staff and Graduate Education Examination (Akademik Personel ve Lisansüstü Eğitimine Giriş Sınavı, ALES) organized by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi, ÖSYM). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score, determined by the Hacettepe University Senate, in the internationally recognized GRE and GMAT examinations.
3. Applicants are required to score at least 70 in the Foreign Knowledge in Foreign Language Placement Examination (Yabancı Dil Seviye Tespit Sınavı, YDS). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score from other foreign language examinations, held at the national or international level, whose equivalence is approved by ÖSYM.
4. International students' applications are accepted in line within “Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).
5. The students who are admitted to the program might be required to take relevant course/s from the Scientific Preparation Programme, in case deemed to be a necessary by the jury of the oral exam.
6. Those conditions, which are not included, are applied in accordance with the related provisions of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education, Instruction and Examination Regulations (Hacettepe Üniversitesi Lisansüst Eğitim, Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği).
This Ph.D program are required
(1) to take a minimum of 9 courses (6 required + 3 elective) with a minimum of 30 local credits for the students with a graduate degree / to take 5 compulsory master courses and 14PhD courses (6 compulsory + 8 elective) for the students with an undergraduate degree
(2) to pass the Preperation Course of Qualifying Exam,
(3) to prepare and defend a doctoral dissertation
At Hacettepe University, full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related bylaws.
The aim of the PhD program is to provide the education necessary for the contribution of both academics and private and public workers in oral and written level by giving advanced analytic point of view. By this way, prosperous authorized will have a knowledge to make a research by using both quantitative and qualitative methods in subjects of economics. Also authorized may use their knowledge in national or foreign projects as a member or organizer of the project.
Graduates of Phd. in Economics will have a strong command in their specialization area of Economics and will be able to work either in private sectors or continue their researches as academics.

In order to graduate from this program, the students are required to
- to take a minimum of 10 courses with a minimum of 30 local credits (240 ECTS) (for the students with a master degree)/ to take a minimum of 18 courses with 54 national credits (300 ECTS) (for the students with an undergraduate degree)
- to have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 3.00/4.00 with a minimum of 240 ECTS credits.
- to pass Thesis Research,
- to pass the qualifying examination,
- to prepare and defend a doctoral dissertation.
1. Full Time Education
