D.1. General Information about Program

Hacettepe University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing started to conduct master programs in 1968 and doctorate programs in 1972. In 1998, the Institute of Health Sciences graduation program is divided into eight departments of branch. One of these is psychiatric nursing doctorate program.

The education in psychiatric nursing doctorate program takes four years (eight semesters) under normal conditions. This program aims, unlike other postgraduate program, to educate productive, creative and questioning master graduates in the field of mental health and psychiatric nursing who meet  the qualifications of a universal scientist, have a good knowledge of national and international literature and can transfer their literature-based knowledge into education and research in accordance with the requirements of the country. For this purpose, students can benefit from university laboratory and technical facilities to develop knowledge and skills in this area. The language of this program is Turkish.

To be a graduate of a Psychiatric Nursing Master's program with thesis

OR 

To be a graduate of a Nursing Master's program with thesis and to be found eligible as a result of the evaluation conducted by the Academic Board of the Department

OR 

To be a graduate of a Consultation Liaison Psychiatric Nursing Master's program with thesis and to be found eligible as a result of the evaluation conducted by the Academic Board of the Department

OR

To be a graduate of a Community Mental Health Nursing Master's program with thesis and to be found eligible as a result of the evaluation conducted by the Academic Board of the Department

NOTE: Candidates who graduated from Nursing master's program with thesis or Consultation Liaison Psychiatric Nursing master's program with thesis or Community Mental Health Nursing master's program with thesis and accepted by the Academic Board of the Department must complete the courses that are determined to be missing by the Academic Board of the Department.

Those who have successfully completed all courses of at least 21 credits included in the program (240 ECTS in total), have successfully passed the PhD proficiency exam and have successfully made their thesis defense in front of the jury meet the requirements of competence necessary for graduation.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Nursing baccalaurate graduates who has completed psychiatric nursing, public health nursing and Faculty of Medicine Public Health master programs and whose conditions are accepted by the Academic Board of Department in the condition of completing their missing courses ara accepted for the program.

This is a theoretical and practical program which aims to educate productive, creative and questioning PhD graduates in the field of mental health and psychiatric nursing who meet the qualifications of a universal scientist, have a good knowledge of national and international literature and can transfer their literature knowledge into education and research in accordance with the requirements of the country.

27% of graduated people indicate that they're very satisfied about their education, %83 of them communicate effectively self-confident, access to information easily, have ability of problem-solving and analysis-synthesis. 92% of graduated people indicate that they make decision rapidly and tendency of team work, 83% of them produce strategic solutions to problems, 67% of them have leadership characteristics, all of them exhibit ethical behaviours, 75% of them have strong corporate relationships.

83% of them have leadershep ability to solve interdisciplinary problems which related to the field, 58% of them have ability to bring innovation to the field about a new thought, method, design and/or application, devolopmental or available idea, method, design and/or application for adapting to a different field, 50% of them have the ability to broadcast their work on issues which is identified by the data carrier into the national/international refereed journals.

67% of employers remark that they're satisfied with doctoral graduates working, 67% of them have reported that graduated people adapt the institution. All of the employers indicate that PhD graduated people can communicate effectively, have self confidence and acsess knowledge easily, 67% of them can use problem solving skills, all of them ability to analysis-synthesis, 67% of them make decisions rapidly and produce strategic solutions to problems. All employers indicate that PHD graduated people have leadership characteristics, 67% of them exhibit ethical behaviours, ensure strong relationships, dominate the health legislation and sensitive for public health problems, all employers indicate that PHD graduated people have an adequate level of knowledge in their field, give feedbacks in scientific meetings, answer questions which asked them and give seminars about their subject area which that they have deeper knowledge. 67% of employers indicate that doctora graduarted people have ability to evaluate and use new information with systematic approaches about the field, all of them have ability to be leader about interdisciplinary problems, 67% of them have ability to adapt, a new thought, method, design and/or aplication to the field and have ability to broadcast the issues at the national/international journals which is determined by them.

Our graduated students are studying in private or state hospitals, family care centers, community mental health services.

Giving information to students about elective courses within and outside section during the program.

60% of intra-departmental elective courses and 40% of non-departmental elective courses can be taken by the students during the teaching program. Required courses give students basic information about the program, while the elective courses, students may want to turn to the future of specific areas of knowledge, skills and competencies focuses on teaching.
