D.1. General Information about Program

Recent advances in the neuromuscular field, following the basic researches dating back to 1990s, is remarkable. New information about the pathogenesis of many diseases has led to ways towards treatment. Especially in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the disease whose gene was first identified by reverse genetics, different drug and genetic treatment strategies are curently being explored; some clinical trials are being conducted and Hacettepe University is one of the centers participating in these international trials.

With these advances in the neuromuscular field, clinical trials are getting more and more important to test these different treatment strategies and multicenter trials are needed for these rare disorders. It is essential to train knowledgable physicians about neuromuscular disorders who are able to participate in clinical trials, which is one of the major aims of this program.

Hacettepe University Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Neurology division and Pediatric Pathology laboratory, in coordination with Medical Biology Department is a major referral center and leader in childhood neuromuscular disorders in Turkey, both in diagnostic and research areas. Since 2000, “Neuromuscular Disorders Working Group” has been active.

The aim of the program is to train graduates knowledgable on different aspects of childhood neuromuscular disorders, experienced in diagnosis, diagnostic and therapeutic approach of neuromuscular disorders, who are able to do differential diagnosis, coordinate multidisciplinary patient follow-up, identify new findings and participate in research projects and clinical trials.

Graduates of the program will be capable of making correct diagnosis and differential diagnosis, planning appropriate therapeutic approaches and multidisciplinary patient follow-up, plan and participate in basic and clinical research projects, and participate in international multicenter clinical trials.

Facilities of clinical education and research of pediatric neurology division and laboratory facilities of pediatric pathology division are used.

The program language is Turkish. Foreign students can apply to the program.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Master without thesis program with a total of thirty credits and at least ten courses, not less than 60 ECTS. consists of a term project course.
Graduate students without thesis who fulfill the Graduation Requirements of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations are awarded a master's degree without thesis.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The curriculum constitutes of 30 credit (60 EKTS) obligatory and optional lessons and a semester project. 

Elective courses are determined by the Institute of Health Sciences together with their advisor.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

The non-thesis master's program consists of a total of 30 credits and a term project course with at least ten courses, not less than 60 ECTS. The student has to register for the term project course in the semester it is taken and submit a written project and / or report at the end of the semester. Term project course is taken in the last semester.

H.Ü. A non-thesis master's degree is awarded to a non-thesis graduate student who fulfills the graduation-related provisions of the Postgraduate Education and Examination Regulations.
