D.1. General Information about Program

Education and research take place in the lecture rooms and laboratories of the Department of Stem Cell Sciences localized at the Hacettepe University Center for Stem Cell Research and Development

Although the tuition language will be Turkish, foreign students will be accepted to the program. In the Stem Cells master degree program; candidates will be equipped with a theoretic and technical training in basic and practical fields regarding stem cells; the students will be educated to international standards in the field of stem cell sciences, it is intended that students will reach a basic level of knowledge on the field of stem cells, as well as gain information on their research-development and application. Graduates will be educated to develop original scientific hypothesis in these fields, which they can dispute, and it is aimed to raise scientists, able to present and discuss the results they obtained, using scientific methods in the field of stem cells, who can participate in cooperation in the basic fields of stem cell research, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering and stem cells.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

To own a Bachelor degree from Medicine, Health siences , Applied Sciences, Engineering or Natural/Life Sciences,

fullfill the criteria according to the terms for application to the Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences Master Degree during application to the Master Degree program.

To have ALES (SAY / EA) score type and ALES and Foreign Language base score determined by the Health Sciences Institute Board and approved by the Hacettepe University Senate http://www.saglikbilimleri.hacettepe.edu.tr/en/menu/ales_foreign_language_scores-252

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

ECTS credits for the stem cell Master Degree Program is 120. Students who successfully complete all courses, must have obtained in total 60 ECTS in this program, and are required to prepare a thesis on a topic to be determined by the thesis supoervisor during the remaining period and defend their thesis in front of a Master Degree thesis jury. The thesis period consists of two semesters and the students will obtain 60 ECTS credits during this period. Students who pass their thesis defense successfully and have fullfilled al the HU Institute of Health Sciences Master Degree Educational Graduation Terms will be given a Master Degree.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who wish to enter through horizontal transition can be accepted according to the statutes concerning the acceptance of students through horizontal transition by the Hacettepe University Master Degree Education-Tuition and Examination Regulations and by decision of the academic board.

Special students can be accepted according to the statutes concerning the acceptance of special students by the Hacettepe University Master Degree Education-Tuition and Examination Regulations and by decision of the academic board.

Students can be accepted according to the statutes concerning the acceptance of candidates who reside abroad by the Hacettepe University Master Degre Education-Tuition and Examination Regulations and by decision of the academic board.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

AIM: The Stem Cell Master Degree Program aims to educate students to international standards in the field of stem cell sciences, to provide students with knowledge on research-development and applications, as well as reach a basic level of knowledge in the field of stem cells to pursue a academic carrier (PhD) in universities. It is aimed that the graduates can design a scientific hypothesis in their fields, can question, can use scientific methods in the field of stem cells and present the obtained data to the scientific World.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates from the Stem Cells Masters Degree Program can continue their carreer (PhD) as academics at universities. They can work in stem cell laboratories where they perform stem cell isolation, expansion, molecular characterization, differentiation and and centers where they do functional analyses (eg R&D centers, stem cell processing/laboratories developing cellular products). In addition, they can work in governemental, foundations and special institutions as specialist, researcher, supervisor or director.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The program consists of compulsory classes worth 30 ECTS, and elective courses worth 30 ECTS, and during the preparation phase of the thesis research, special topic courses and the Master degree thesis are worth 60 ECTS. Elective courses can ben chosen from other PhD and Master degree programs in related fields.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Measuring and evaluation methods for every course that are part of the Stem Cell Master Degree Program are indicated in the course information packages. For evaluation and scoring of examinations, the statutes according to the Hacettepe University Masters Degree Education – Tuition and Examination Regulations will be applied.

In order to obtain the Stem Cell Master Degree, the statutes of the Hacettepe University Masters Degree Education – Tuition and Examination Regulations will be applied.
