D.1. General Information about Program

Back

Treatment of life-threatening complex diseases is carried out in intensive care units with biotechnological equipment and experienced healthcare team. The importance of critical care nurses, who have many duties and responsibilities, from the use and control of life-supporting biotechnological products in these units to the application and monitoring of complex and delicate medical treatment, to the highest level of patient care and follow-up, is better understood today.

The critical care nurse has extremely high-level, dependent, semi-dependent and independent roles for the treatment and care of complex health problems, together with the duties, authorities and responsibilities of a standard clinical nurse. Developing these wide-range of roles is only possible of nurses to have the knowledge and skills to carry out evidence-based scientific studies in the field, to work together with all members of the healthcare team, to adopt the principles of professional development and the organization of critical care nursing services. The critical care nursing master's program will be carried to contribute to the training of specialist nurses who can provide nursing care with a systematic and holistic approach to critical patients in the intensive care environment. The program will be carried out by the Department of Internal Medicine Nursing, which has an academic and scientific background in the internal medicine nursing since 1968.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

  • To have a Bachelor of Nursing Diploma
  • Clinical experience for two years or one-year experience in critical care unit
  • To have at least the minimum Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES-SCIE/EW) or foreign language scores approved by Graduate School of Health Sciences Board and Hacettepe University Senate. (ALES-Foreign Language Scores Table)
  • To meet the application requirements of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulations and Graduate School of Health Sciences

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to graduate from the Critical Care Nursing master program; A total of 120 ECTS credits must be completed successfully, with at least seven courses, one seminar course provided that they consist not less than 21 national credits and 60 ECTS credits and 60 ECTS thesis study credits. A student in a master's program with thesis has to report thesis and successfully defense thesis with the jury to meet the requirements of competence necessary for graduation.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The main purpose of the program is to train specialist nurses who can provide systematic and holistic nursing care to critical patients in the intensive care environment. The program aims to train specialist nurses who has current expertise level of knowledge in critical care nursing field; combines, analysis and synthesis that knowledge with different disciplines' knowledge to generate new knowledge; conducts researches by acting ethically; uses research outcomes as solutions of critical care nursing problems, and presents research outcomes nationally and internationally, adopts and internalizes personal development and lifelong learning principles, thinks analytically and critically, acts responsibly and sensitively about community health at the highest level. 

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Those who have successfully completed the Critical Care Nursing Master's Program with Thesis are entitled to receive the Master's Degree.

Graduates can work in public and private sector?s intensive care units, and continue their academic studies in doctoral programs of both domestic and international educational institutions.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Back

Critical Care Nursing Master's Program with Thesis includes compulsory and elective courses. A part or all of the elective courses can be optionally taken from within and/or outside the field.

The program lasts at least 4 semesters with 2 semesters of course period and 2 semesters of thesis work. The student must take 30 ECTS in one semester. Students can take the minimum credit that is required to take, by extending over the first 2 semesters at will. Thesis starts by the 3rd semester.  All of the courses in the program are semester courses.
