D.1. General Information about Program

  • Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry has been founded as “Academy of Dentistry” under affiliation of Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty in 1963. In 1971, “Academy of Dentistry” has been transformed to an independent faculty-“Faculty of Dentistry”. Department of Restorative Dentistry has been founded in 1982. Applicants completed the 5 year dentistry education with a degree of “dentist” are admitted to the Restorative Dentistry PhD programme. PhD education in Restorative Dentistry aims at training academicians and researchers in Restorative Dentistry that are capable of taking part in scientific research, education and health.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

  • Graduates of Faculty of Dentistry are admitted.
  • Applicants must provide the requirements for application determined by” Institute of Health Sciences” (English knowledge and postgraduate education examinations).
  • Applicants must succeed in oral/written examinations performed by the department.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Back

Master's degree graduates admitted to pHd programme must take at least 240 ECTS for the whole study period. Students have to fullfill the criteria of “Hacettepe University Education, Training and Exam Ordinance” to be qualified for “doctor of science” degree.

Other criteria that has to be provided are;

1. Requirements to succeed in proficiency examination:

-To take minimum 90 credits of PhD lectures and 30 ECTS of proficiency lectures prior to proficiency examination, to prepare and present a presentation at least once per year, to gain capability of preparing oral and poster presentations to be presented in scientific meetings, to be master in the knowledge and practice of scientific ethical issues, to succeeed in oral and written examinations held by the jury constituted pursuant to “phd ordinance”.

2. Requirements for Thesis study :

To succeed in proficiency examination, to develop a unique scientific and methodological problem, to be proficient in practice of methodological knowledge and skills, to develop a hypothesis to solve this problem, (if necessary) to have Ethics Approval for the study, to present the preliminary draft of the thesis study to academic council(s) and (if present) to prepare preliminary studies, hypothesis, aims and plan of the thesis.

3. Requirements for Thesis Defense :

To conclude a thesis study qualified by ”Post-doctorate Education Ordinance”, to prepare the thesis based on thesis preparation guide and standards determined by Institute of Health Sciences, to have the knowledge of fundamentals of the thesis work and to be capable of performing/developing methodologies of the study independently, to have the knowledge of presenting scientific lecture on the thesis, to develop conclusions and hypothesis based on the data obtained from the study, to be proficient in developing and performing a scientific research independently.

For acceptance of phD studies in Restorative Dentistry, applicants must have completed master's degree of dentistry or an equivalent education programme abroad.

To train and educate “doctor of sciences in Restorative Dentistry” that have knowledge in basic and clinical fields, are strongly bounded to ethical regulations, capable of performing all treatments in Restorative Dentistry, familiar with developing technology and take role in developing new technologies, analytical, problem-solver, able to reach and share information and open to new developments

D.14. Profile of the Programme

This programme constitutes of 75% obligatory and 25% elective lectures. Elective lectures include both in-department lectures and lectures from the other departments that can be taken in the first three semesters. For the 4th semester, the programme includes the preparation studies for proficiency examination and the proficiency examination then after. At 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th semesters, thesis work are carried out.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

To successfully complete 240 ECTS of obligatory and elective phD lectures (in-department and lectures from other departments) and to prepare a qualified thesis on his field based on “Postdoctorate Education Ordinance” and to prepare the thesis according to the guide and standards of Institute of Health Sciences.

To succeed in 8 semester, 240 ECTS theoretical and practical lectures and practice applications, to conduct a qualified thesis based on “Postdoctorate Education Ordinance” and to prepare the thesis according to the guide and standards of Institute of Health Sciences.
