Hacettepe University Department of Anatomy began education within the structure of Ankara University Hacettepe Medical and Health Sciences in 1963 and Department of Anatomy was founded one year later, in 1964.
Besides the Faculty of Medicine, our department offers undergraduate and graduate anatomy courses in Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences and Health Services Vocational School. Graduate training programs are Master and PhD programs which include dissertion thesis preparation within the stucture of Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences.
In PhD Program of Anatomy; during classical macroscopic anatomy training, neuroanatomy, clinical anatomy, cross sectional anatomy educations are emphasized. In addition to theoretical courses of the macroscopic anatomy, practice with formalin-fixed and fresh-frozen cadavers, temporal bone dissection and plastination practicticals are provided for the students. Lectures on microscopic anatomy, research techniques and laboratory facilities in accordance with the student's interests and academic advisor's recommendation are available. Anatomy PhD program instruction is carried out in Turkish and English (for foreign students).
Laboratory facilities for study and research offered are dissection microscopes, transmission and scanning electron microscopes, confocal laser scanning microscopy and micro-CT devices.
Our department of the department has pioneered the scientific innovation in the fields of macroscopic and microscopic anatomy. Microscopic and clinical anatomy courses, launched in 2003, has given the clinicians and researchers the opportunity tho enjoy our departments facilities and has contributed to their education.

The necessary conditions in order to graduate from this program:
In order to gradute from this program a total of 240 ECTS should be taken, 30 at each semester. Before attending the proficiency exam, during first four semestre 120 ECTS credits must be taken. Only, mandatory course:  ANA790 Preperation fort he proficiency exam? with 30 ECTS credits should be taken during four semestre. At least 25% of the courses taken should be elective courses either within of from another department. All exams should be passes to succeed. In order to pass from the final examination, average marks of theorotical and practical exminations should be over 70. Once the proficiency  exam is passed the student should prepare a Doctorate Thesis under the management of the scientific advisor and in order to graduate this thesis should be accepted by the jury. These education and training activities are carried out in accordance with ?Hacettepe University Faculty of Graduate Studies Regulations"(http://www.ait.hacettepe.edu.tr/egitim/yonetmelik.shtml).
 For transfers from abroad or from a national university, relevant regulations are applied. For academic recognition of students form other universities are determined by the decision of the academic council.

Having the ability of using the latest information in the field of anatomy as an expert, developing hypothesis,solving and deepening them. Bringing a new way of thinking, a new scientific method, a new design and technology in the field of anatomy and application of these. Having the ability of using the theoretical and practical knowledge of anatomy for designing, appliying, controlling and finalizying a study. Accessing to the latest information in the field of Anatomy and evaluating them in a systematic manner. Presenting and publishing the results of his academic studies in national and international academic platforms. Using the anatomy knowledge for integration with different disciplines, creating new informations, reviews, analysis and synthesis by using different research methods and offering new solutions. Evaluating the anatomy-related information in a criticizing manner. The ability of performing studies under the principles of professional development and lifelong learning in the field of anatomy. Knowing the importance of ethical principles and ethics committees for individuals and for the society. Having the skills of oral and written communication, collaboration, defending his opinions; for working at his own field, the other fields of medicine, scientific and social communities. Having the ability of evaluating the progresses in scientific, technologic, social and cultural fields and can share the results with the public, in ethical responsibility and independitely manner.
The graduates of this program can work at the education and research institutions, research laboratories that has anatomy departments or teach anatomy lectures for government or private sector in Turkey or abroad.
 The obligatory lectures are at the first, second and third midterms and they involve the basic knowledge and practices about the subject. 75 % of the program comprises of the obligatory and 25 % comprises of the elective courses. At least 10 % of the elective courses must be choosen from the related department; 10 ECTS credits for first and second midterms and  14 ECTS credits for third midterm. The rest can be selected from the elective courses of the department or the medical sciences institute or the other institutes and also can be chosen from the lectures of the other departments with the permission of the consultant only if it is compatible with the academic calender.  The measurement and evaluation methods for each lecture is defined in the Lesson Education Plan that is prepared by the instructor.
