D.1. General Information about Program

Oral diagnosis and radiology is the disciple that performes the act of identifying and differentation of oral diseases and formulating treatment planning, through radiological imagining, and indicated laboratory tests.

This program is provided by the Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology. Oral Diagnosis lectures were given by the leadership of Dr. Erdem Yarkut in the School of Dental Medicine as a part of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in the years of 1963-1964. Then, Dr. ErdoÄŸan Turgut received training on Oral Medicine, Oral Diagnosis and Radiology in U.S.A. Dr.Turgut established the Disciplines of Oral Diagnosis and Oral Radiology in Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry. Oral Diagnosis and Radiology doctorate programme has began in Hacettepe University Institude of Health Sciences in 1973. In 1982 the Board of Higher Education was recognized these two disciplines as a single discipline. On 08.06.1995 with the approval of the Board of Higher Education, discipline of oral diagnosis and radiology was recognized as a separate department. Currently, academic team consists of 6 professors, 2 associate professors and 1 teaching assistant.

Laboratories, clinics and technical facilities for students:

There are two working facilities; Oral Diagnosis Clinic and Oral Radiology Clinic. There are 11 dental chairs in Oral Diagnosis Clinic, two panoramic machines, five periapical x-ray machines, photostimulable phosphor system and PACS system in Oral Radiology Clinic.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The applicants who have a graduate degree in dentistry and fulfill the requirements of the Instutute of Health Sciences are admitted to the Doctorate programme after an oral examination.

Admission Requirements for International Students

Diplomas from foreign universities must be accredited by Board of Higher Education and must meet Health Sciences Institute's entrance requirements.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The doctorate programme lasts 8 semesters.The total ECTS credit of the programme is 240. The programme consists of 120 ECTS from elective and compulsory post-graduate courses, a qualification test after 4 semesters, thesis proposal, presentation of the thesis and argument of thesis. The student is required to attend the theoretical and practical courses. D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Accreditiation requirements by Board of Higher Education and Hacettepe University Health Sciences Institute must be fulfilled. The applicants must meet the requirements for recognition of prior learning, determined by Health Sciences Institute.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The aim of the Oral Diagnosis and Radiology programme is to graduate the scholars who are able to use contemporary methods for diagnosis and treatment planning and compotent in education and reserch activities.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Scholars who have completed the PhD programme, may work as an academician at Dentomaxillofacial Radiology Departments if they fulfill the determined criteria. He/she can work in private clinics, education and research oriented government institutions or private hospitals.

Programme lasts for 8 semesters. Students receive theoretical and practical courses in the first four semesters. 25% of the courses are elective and 75% of the courses are compulsory. After the Qualification Exam octoral thesis is carried out in the last 4 semesters.
