D.1. General Information about Program

Department of Chemistry was founded as a part of Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1964. Chemistry and Chemical Engineering programs were begun at the same time. Then our department was exceeded to Faculty of Science and Engineering in 1967 when Hacettepe University was founded as an autonomous university. Faculty of Science and Engineering was divided into three parts which were Science, Engineering and Chemistry in 1971, and then Chemical Engineering Department was founded as a part of Faculty of Chemistry at the same year. Faculty of Chemistry and Faculty of Engineering were joined together in 1983 then Department of Chemistry was exceeded to Faculty of Engineering. In 1992, our department was exceeded to Faculty of Science.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The students who wants to apply for Master of Science program must pass the exams and complete the processes which is determiend by the academic and legal context of the university and YOK. The applications and application conditions to the program is announced in website of Science Institute ( Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulations) before academic semester. Graduate students that have started their education in an equivalent program in domestic or overseas, can apply for transfer. The acceptance of students are conducted by taking the conditions of students and the applied degree into account and evaluated individually.

The candidates that will apply for Master degree must primarly have 1. Undergraduate diploma 2. Graduate Entrance Exam (ALES) eligible score and 3. Foreign language exam (UDS, KPDS, TOEFL, etc..)minimum score that is provisioned by Hacettepe University senate.

In order to obtain a doctorate degree in chemistry, students must pass the mandatory and elective courses (courses + seminer with a total ECTS of 90) in doctorate degree program achieving a minimum general academic average of 2,75 in 4,00 score system and proficiency for doctorate with a 30 ECTS credit. In course phase, student must conduct a research related to thesis subject under the supervision of advisor academic instructor ( with a ECTS of 30) and must succesfully defend his/her thesis in jury (Hacettepe University Graduate Education-Exam Regulations) and when considered all semester, student must have completed total of 240 ECTS.

Requirements for applicants who graduated from chemistry or from other departments of same or different faculty are arranged by Hacettepe University Institute of Graduate Stduies in Science Regulations.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The goal of the Hacettepe University Doctorate Degree program is to train expert chemists that :

have access to literature and capability of interpretation of knowledge sentient to enviroment and society

to observe and dissolve encountered problems in his/her field with a scientific apporach;

to have theoric and practical information on modern instruments and methods in his/her field.

to present the obtained results as inscribed or oral in national or international academic platformes

to train qualified chemistry doctors and academicians who can participate the cooperation project.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The graduated students receive Ph. D. chemist title. Works as an Ph.D. chemist in industrial fields such as pharmacy, food, agricultural, health, military, petroleum, enviroment, automotive, plastic, paint, mining industries. Besides, can work in educational activies as an academician in chemistry related departments in universities.

The evaluation and assessment methods for each course prepared by the faculty member(s) and the relevant information are included in the package called "Course Teaching Plan". Exams and grades/success evaluations of courses are applied according to the Hacettepe University Institute of Graduate Studies in Science Regulations.
