D.1. General Information about Program

Department of Statistics was founded in 1967 as the first undergraduate Statistics program in Turkey. Department of Statistics coordinates teaching and research in statistical science. The primary aim of program is to educate well qualified individuals on statistics as well as operations research, risk analysis, actuarial sciences, quality management, computer sciences and information system and to equip them to work in a wide variety of areas. Department also offers student Erasmus, double minor, Master and PhD programs. Department provides four year full time study and education language is Turkish. Students are required to earn total 240 ECTS credits. Department allows students the opportunity to take a wide variety of courses.

The Department of Statistics requires applicants to get the mimimum score in Mathematics field from the national universiy enterence exam.

Course exemption definitions for transfer and exchance students are defined in Hacettepe University Regulations on Undergraduate Education and Examination documentations. In addition, course equivelencies are determined by the department and approved from Faculty of Science.

The primary aim of program is to educate the well qualified statisticians having the ability of analytical thinking with high moral values, and ability of solve complex problems on various study area of statistics.

Students need to earn total 240 ECTS credits which consist of compulsory and selective courses.

Of the 240 credits (149 national credits), 132 (55%) must be compulsory courses and 108 (45% ) must be elective courses.

Proportion of department selectives: 67 %

Proportion of out-of-department selectives: 33 %

Students may also take out-of-department courses like Economy, Introduction to Philisophy, Management and Sociology.
