D.1. General Information about Program

Back

Graduates of this program gain the ability to both conduct original research in the field of speech-language therapy and assimilate assessing scientific research and improvement activities with a deep viewpoint. Besides, they especially gain the dexterity of determining required steps to attain original conclusions in a specific research process.

After graduation, graduates gain a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. In this general context, masters who are equipped with abilities such as evaluation of speech and language disorders and application of therapy techniques, planning, and conducting scientific research are being educated in this department. Graduates of the Speech and Language Therapy Ph.D. program can utilize the competencies they gain during therapy applications, clinical observations, and academic research thus in the next step have the ability to professional application and research.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

For registration to Speech and Language Therapy Ph.D. program, candidates are supposed to be graduated from graduate programs in either Speech and Language Therapy or Audiology and Speech Disorders and Educational Audiology. Being graduated from a field-related department will be accepted by Academic Council as well.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To graduate from Speech and Language Therapy Ph.D. program, all students must complete at least 240 ECTS successfully: at least 21 credits and 7 courses (at least 90 ECTS except for proficiency exam courses) with one seminar course, thesis proposal, and thesis study. Or equivalent education abroad is required.

Masters of Science degree in Speech-Language Therapy and Audiology and Speech Disorders or an equivalent degree from an international program are valid.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The main objective of the Ph.D. program in Speech-Language Therapy is to raise well-educated and qualified doctors of philosophy who possess scientific qualifications at the universal level on account of research and practice in the field of Speech-Language Therapy, who have the skills of planning and conducting scientific original researches independently, who share newly gained information for the benefit of mankind and science and finally who are capable of contributing to national and international platforms.

Alums of Speech and Language Therapy may have the chance to work as speech-language pathologists in state/private hospitals, companies, special clinics, education centers, etc. Also, after graduation from higher studies, they have the chance to work in academic positions at the state or college universities.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The program lasts at least 4 years and consists of at least 8 semesters. Students are required to perform 30 ECTS credits in one semester (semester). The program consists of a minimum of 240 ECTS credits, with a minimum of 30 ECTS courses in the first 4 semesters and a total of 120 ECTS credits in the last 4 semesters. Students have to complete the compulsory courses in the first two years (four semesters). Required credits are provided from elective courses. Students who have completed at least 120 ECTS credits can take additional elective courses with the approval of their advisor.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined in the Course Teaching Plan prepared by the relevant faculty members and included in the information package. Regarding exams and course grades, the relevant regulations of Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education and Examination Regulations are applied.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

Following the completion of theoretical and practical courses in the first two years, the student must be successful in the doctoral qualifying exam. Students who are successful in the proficiency exam are taken to the thesis defense exam at the end of the fourth year by performing a thesis study. 21 credits (240 ECTS credits) must be completed for graduation In addition, the necessary conditions for graduation will be applied in the Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulation on the website of the Institute of Health Sciences.
