D.1. General Information about Program

Drug Research and Development Non-Thesis Master Program was established in 2016 at Hacettepe University Health Sciences Institute. In this program, students will have an education about drug research and development applications. For this purpose, it is planned to give some compulsory and elective courses which will be taught by experienced academics from departments of Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Toxicology. Furthermore, the program will be supported by Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Assosiations of Turkey (Ä°EÄ°S) which represents a major population of the drug industry in Turkey and has a strategic agreement with Hacettepe Universityand students will have the opportunity to experience some applications in research and development centers of drug companies. The Semester Projects in the third semester are planned to be performed through ?practical applications? in partnership with the drug industry. To graduate from the program, students must complete 60 ECTS of compulsory and 30 ECTS of elective courses.

"Master without thesis program with a total of thirty credits and at least ten courses, not less than 60 ECTS. consists of a term project course.

Students must complete at least 25% of the total credits from elective courses within the program or courses from other programs, successfully accomplish semester project and have a minimum of 2,50 academic grade according to the Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education and Examination Act. D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The courses that a student takes from national/ international graduate programs before enrollment to the program; including the courses which a student completes as a private student; are transferred to the program and committed to his/her transcript in accordance to Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education and Examination Act, section 22; with approval of the supervisor, suggestion of the department and the acceptance of the institute board of directors.

Drug industry consists of different areas such as research and development, production, quality control, authorisation, bioavailability/bioequivalence studies, clinical trials, sales-marketing, presentation, project development, regulatory affairs and health legislations, which are convenient for a pharmacist. The proposed program will prepare newly graduated pharmacists for the drug industry and encourage them not to limit their career to work in pharmacies. Therefore, Drug Research and Development Non-Thesis Masters Program will strengthen the sophisticated Pharmacy Education and will provide advantages to pharmacists for career development and using their skills. Furthermore, an important contribution will be made to the different areas of drug industry with qualified staff.

Pharmacy as a profession has a very important function in health services and it has much more diverse job opportunities when compared to the other health professionals. Since, pharmacists employed in a relatively low proportion in drug industry, the target of the proposed program is educating pharmaciststo contribute more to the industry from molecular design and development to marketing and post-marketing controls with up-to-date knowledge and skills, and support their professional practice.

Furthermore, for the people already working in the drug industry and employees from different backgrounds, in particular chemistry, biology and chemical engineering, graduating from this program which has a pharmacy background, will be beneficial.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Drug Research and Development Non-Thesis Master's Degree Program is planned to encompass at least three semesters of education. Program is divided into two phases, courses phase (2 semesters) and semester project phase (1 semester). Students should take 30 ECTS compulsory and 30 ECTS elective courses completing 60 ECTS credits of courses in courses phase and are expected to succeed in them. The students may take courses from other semesters' electives within the program or courses from other programs of the Institute of Health Sciences or Graduate School of Science and Engineering. At least 35% of the elective courses should be chosen among courses of Drug Research and Development Non-Thesis Master's Degree Program. The student prepares a research work on a determined project subject under the guidance of their supervisor in the project phase semester. Semester project phase consists of at least one semester. The data obtained at the end of this phase are written according to the rules of Institute of Health Sciences and presented as a project. The student who successfully defends his/her project successfully completes the program.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Drug Research and Development Non-Thesis Master's Degree Program examinations consist of midterm exams, general exams and excuse exams. The adequacy on a course is determined with the course success grade. A student who gets at least C1 (65-69/100) is accepted to pass that course. Course success grade is calculated using the achievements a student shows during the semester (midterm exams, homework assignments, practical studies etc.) and the final exam score together. The final exam contributes to at least 50% of the courses success grade. The students need to successfully complete 60 ECTS credits to graduate from Drug Research and Development Non-Thesis Master's Degree Program. 60 credits are granted from the compulsory and elective courses of courses phase and 30 credits are granted from semester project. To gain their Master's Degree in program, the student must accomplish the rules of Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education and Examination Regulations, and get a minimum grade point average of 2.50/4.00 (http://www.saglikbilimleri.hacettepe.edu.tr/yonetmelik.html).
