D.1. General Information about Program

Teaching Turkish to Turkish Children Abroad Program is a two-year (4 semesters) Master's program with thesis carried out by Educational Sciences Institute. The program was founded to raise scientific experts who possesses professional knowledge and skills about Teaching Turkish to Turkish Children Abroad. The scientific experts who are going to be raised in the program, will be able to contribute to the knowledge of teaching Turkish in different countries as well as meeting the need of qualified teacher in the field. The scientific experts who complete the program conducted by Branch of Turkish Language Teaching in the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education will possess the equipment to pioneer in the field.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The candidates who possess the conditions mentioned below can apply to the program:

• Being graduated from a four-year undergraduate program (Department of Early Childhood Education, Department of Classroom Education, Department of Foreign Language Teaching, Department of Turkish Language and Literature Teaching of any Education Faculty in Turkey and departments of other faculties such as language and literature, translation and interpreting, and linguistics)
• Fulfilling the requirements of Hacettepe University Graduate Program Education and Exam Regulations
• Obtaining at least 70 points from YDS (Foreign Language Exam) or any equivalent exams accepted by YÖK (Higher Education Council)
• Obtaining at least 55 points from verbal section of ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam) or any equivalent exams accepted by YÖK (Higher Education Council)
• Succeeding in entrance exam

Candidates who are brought to the program by Turkish Abroad and Related Communities through Citizens Abroad Scholarships are not required to fulfil YDS and ALES scores.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The graduate students should complete at least 60 ECTS courses including seminar successfully.

The graduate students should prepare a thesis under the supervision of an advisor appointed by the department and should be successful in the thesis examination.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The recognition of prior formal learning in Turkish Higher Education institutions has been carried out by vertical transfer, undergraduate transfer, and intercollegiate transfer within the scope of regulations defined by Higher Education Council. As long as rules specified in the regulations are complied with, a limited number of course credits could be transferred between the departments and it becomes possible for a student to continue his/ her education in a different department. As recognition of prior informal education in Higher Education is still at an early stage in Turkey, the recognition of prior learning outside the scope of this formal education is not possible yet.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The main objective of Teaching Turkish to Turkish Children Abroad Graduate Program is to meet scientific expert needs in Turkish Teaching of Turkish Children who are trained bilingually abroad. By this way, it is aimed to increase the knowledge of bilingual Turkish children in the field of teaching Turkish, to train scientific experts in the field, and to meet the needs of qualified expert teachers of public and private institutions and organizations.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Students of Teaching Turkish to Turkish Children Abroad Graduate Program are graduated with the title of “Scientific Expert”. Those who complete the program will be able to lecture Turkish and Turkish Culture courses in the countries they live in. In addition, graduates of the program can instruct Turkish courses in the schools opened by Turkish entrepreneurs abroad and the schools which are planned to be opened by Turkish Maarif Foundation; can coordinate courses opened within the structure of Turkish Civil Society Organizations. The graduates can also work as teacher or researcher in the universities, work in research, program, supervision or management branches of the Ministry of Education and Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Teaching Turkish to Turkish Children Abroad Graduate Program of the Turkish Council of Higher Education, is a program which was prepared within the framework of the Higher Education Qualifications and follows the national curriculum. Ongoing pre-service teachers will be able to take elective courses both from this department and other departments in line with their interests and abilities.

The measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course are described in detail in the "Evaluation System" tables prepared by the field lecturers and included in the information package.
