MATHEMATICS TEACHING PROGRAMME(4 YEARS)


D.1. General Information about Program

Mathematics Education Program was founded in the Secondary Science and Mathematics Education Department in 1982 with the aim of training mathematics teachers for the secondary schools whose language of instruction is German. Students must be successful in the national university entrance examination to be able to start their education.

The education period which was four years, was increased to five years in 1998 with the decision of The Council of Higher Education. In 2014 four-year-education program was started to implement again. Instruction language was changed as Turkish. Students take subject area, vocational training and elective courses during their education. Mathematics Education Program consists of the areas of mathematics and mathematics education. Students in this program acquire knowledge not only in the field of mathematics but also they gain skills about developing mathematics teaching materials, testing and evaluating, design lectures according to their students' needs and expectations in mathematics.

The main aim of the program is to train highly-qualified mathematics teachers in accordance with the objectives of Turkish National Education and adherent of Ataturk's Principles and Revolution. In order to transform their theoretical knowledge to practical abilities, students are assigned to secondary schools for both classroom observations and practical training in their final year.

The program offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematics teaching.

2. Obtaining the required grade (YGS-MF1) from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (OSYM)

The candidates, who have the right to be a student in the Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education in Hacettepe University, register with the requested documentary within the period determined and declared by the rectorate. The candidates who don't register in the declared period lose the right.

Students have to take total of 240 ECTS courses which includes field and vocational knowledge and elective courses, fulfill the proficiency of the Mathematics Teacher Training Program and have at least 2.00 weighed GPA of 4.00 to be able to graduate.

The aim of the program is to train secondary mathematics teachers who are equipped with knowledge of mathematics and mathematics education, have positive attitudes and values ??related to their field and to the teaching profession, support the professional development and culture of mathematics, have competency in learning and teaching, use an effective communication language, think creative, critical and analytical, have the ability to relate the field knowledge with daily life, to bridge the field with other disciplines, are coherent with the information age, follow science and technology and able to use them in their field, sensitive to the universal and social developments in the agenda with the awareness of social responsibility, have the values?? of democracy, human rights, social, scientific and professional ethics.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of this department work as mathematics teacher in public and private secondary schools and university preparation courses; can be employed in Ministry of National Education and in the Council of Higher Education; work in the field of computer and technology with deepening the courses they took during their education based on their interests; can prefer academic life in universities and can tend to different professional areas out of their profession.
