Since its foundation, accumulation of Hacettepe University in the field of Traditional Turkish Music is noteworthy, because of units established, activities performed, scientific works done, and publications. An academic restructuring can provide extension of the limits of this accumulation and perpetuation of such activities.
In this context, to provide graduate education based on the grounds as treating “Classical Turkish Music” and “Turkish Folk Music” with a holistic approach, intermingling the university with society and training academicians/artists who deal with music with a multi-directional view; a proposal for the establishment of an art department named as “Department of Traditional Turkish Music” within Hacettepe University Institute of Fine Arts was submitted.
“Department of Traditional Turkish Music” has been founded and has started 2012-2013 academic year upon the decree 2012/01.02 of 17.07.2012 of the Executive Board of the Institute, approval of the Commission for Education and the decree 2012-243 of 25.07.2012 of the Senate and the approval of the Council of Higher Education at the meeting held on 15.08.2012.
