D.1. General Information about Program

“Environmental Medicine ” MSc Program, as one of the degree programs of Hacettepe University Institute of Health Science. It was conducted since 1998.

The aim of this program is providing necessary information and skills for implementing and evaluating the environmental medicine programs within their practice in their clinics to the family physcians, public health, internal medicine or pediatric specialists and securing them to get a research on this area. The program also contributes in opening a clinical branch; environmental medicine department.

The Environmental Medicine MSc Program offers courses for Internalists, Pediatricians, Public Health and Family Physician Specialists in accordance with the program objectives.

There is no available PhD program on Environmental Medicine. Foreign candidates may also be enrolled to the MSc program.

The program is 2 years (4 semesters). The first two semesters consist of compulsory or voluntary courses and the second two semesters consist of the thesis. During the last two semesters, voluntary courses may be taken with the consent of the advisor.

The medium of instruction is Turkish.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The Program accepts Internalists, Pediatricians, Public Health and Family Physician Specialists. The student candidates need to fulfill the ALES examination and foreign language requirements for the Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences Programs.

To meet the application requirements of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations and Institute of Health Sciences.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to qualify for the Public Health-?Environmental Medicine ? MSc Degree, the students need to take required and elective courses of the program to earn at least 21 national credits, write a thesis within the scope of the program topics, and defend their thesis successfully to earn at least 120 ECTS credits. The students are subject to the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Postgraduate Studies and Examinations.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Student applications for recognition of prior learning on the same study area in a postgraduate institution in Turkey or abroad are reviewed according to the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Post-Graduate Studies and Examinations.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The general aim of the “Environmental Medicine” MSc Program, is to provide necessary information and skills for implementing and evaluating the environmental medicine programs within their practice in their clinics to the family physicians, public health, internal medicine or pediatric specialists and securing them to get a research on this area. The program also contributes in opening a clinical branch; environmental medicine department.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of this Program have the opportunity to work in different departments of the Ministry of Health, Provincial Public Health Directorate, Community Health Center, and affiliated institutions, Universities-in their speciality departments Environmental Medicine Departments, directorates of health affairs in the municipalities, international organizations, private sector, and non-governmental organizations.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The duration of this MSc Program is 4 semesters. The Program consists of at least 120 ECTS credits (21 national credits), composed of two semesters of course work (30 ECTS credits per semester), and two semesters of thesis work (30 ECTS credits per semester). 

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are described in the course info packs prepared by each instructor. For the examinations and pass grades, respective articles of the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Post-Graduate Studies and Examinations shall be applied.
