D.1. General Information about Program

Occupational Health MSc Program conducted in Institute Health Sciences, Department of Public Health, aims to graduate students equipped with skill and knowledge on basic principles and practice of occupational health and safety, to participate in studies aiming to increase health level and quality of life of workers and to contribute to the development of the science of occupational health and safety in Turkey.

After graduation, candidates have the opportunity to apply to the PhD program. Foreign students also have the opportunity to apply for the MSc Program.

Currently, the MSc and PhD Programs of the Institute of Public Health are affiliated administratively to the Institute of Health Sciences.

The duration of the MSc Program is two years (four semesters). The first year (two semesters) consist of required and elective courses, whereas the second year consists of the thesis work. The medium of instruction is Turkish.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

 The Program accepts graduates of medicine, health sciences, science, and social science related faculties.

The student candidates need to fulfill the requirements specified in the By Law of Hacettepe University on Postgraduate Studies and Examinations.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

 In order to qualify for the Occupational Health and Safety MSc Degree, the students need to earn at least 120 ECTS/ 21 national credits, and to complete a thesis work.

During the course period, the students need to successfully complete courses (including the seminar course without any national credits) to earn at least 21 national credits (60 ECTS). At the end of the second semester, the students, who fulfill these criteria with an average academic score of at least 2.75, are allowed to submit their thesis proposal.

After completion of the thesis work, the candidate defends his/her thesis before a jury, and complete the MSc Program if he/she is successful in knowledge, interpretation, and synthesis parts of the thesis defence. In the thesis period (two semesters), the student earns 60 ECTS.

 Students are allowed for lateral transfer, and credit transfer between programs according to the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Post-Graduate Studies and Examinations.

 The aim of the program is to enable graduates of faculties and equivalent schools in science and social science subjects related to medicine and Public Health to gain necessary skills and knowledge required to conduct occupational health and safety program efficiently in their own fields of study and to carry out investigations on this subject.   

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

 Graduates of Occupational Health and Safety MSc Program may carry out service and training functions in academic institutions, public and private sector, and NGOs in departments related to occupational health and safety, particularly in central and local organizations affiliated with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security Ministry,  and the Ministry of Health.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

 Students have to complete compulsory lessons in both semesters of the first year. Necessary credit is obtained from elective lessons. If advisor suggests, they may take lessons from other programs not included in program curriculum. Prerequisites of elective lessons are (if present) included in the explanations of lessons. A student who has taken compulsory lessons may take elective lessons regarding the thesis whose preliminary studies he/she will carry out in accordance with the approval of consultant.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

 To successfully complete the program, the students need to need to take required and elective courses of the program to earn at least 24 national credits, write a thesis within the scope of the program topics, and defend their thesis successfully to earn a total of 120 ECTS credits. The students are subject to the ByLaw of Hacettepe University on Postgraduate Studies and Examinations.
