Course objectiveThe objective of this course is to introduce gender approaches and gender theories which are necessary to make a gender analysis of sport and physical activity and the importance of sport and physical activity for gender reproduction.  
Learning outcomes
  1. Learn the basic concepts related to sport and gender.
  2. Learn the feminist theories in gender studies. Explain feminist theories in sport and gender relations.
  3. Evaluate the historical development of gender studies in sport. Analyze the representation of female and male athletes in the media.
  4. Explain gender relations in sport organizations.
  5. Analyze the gender construction in the physical education field.
  6. Analyze the construction of different masculinities in sport.
  7. Explain the relationship among sport and homophobia.
  8. Evaluate the sport and physical activity participation of women in Turkey by gender approach. Evaluate sport and gender policies.
