Course objectiveThe principle objective of this course is to enable students to learn basic concept of translation and the problematic factors affecting translation process, and to develop translation strategies according to text type, function and audience.  
Learning outcomes
  1. At the and of the course the student: 1. know basic concepts of Translation Studies;
  2. 2. benefit from the basic theoretical knowledge in translation process;
  3. 3. solve common translation problems encountered in various text types;
  4. 4. develop translation strategies according to text type, function and audience;
  5. 5. find solution to problems encountered in translation process;
  6. 6. realize the differences between written and oral language, reflecting the difference in translation.

1. Will gain knowledge about the basic concepts of linguistics and linguistic features of sign languages.     
2. Will survey the literature on interdisciplinary areas pertaining to sign linguistics and understand the interaction of sign linguistics with fields such as sociology, translation sciences and communication sciences.X    
3. Have knowledge about the historical development of sign languages and Turkish Sign Language.      
4. Will evaluate phenomena such as language contact, language genesis, creole, bilingualism within the context of sign languages.
